Here is the Holmgren statement.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren gave an injury update on Flyers forward Scott Hartnell:

"Scott will be out indefinitely with a left foot injury. We will know more on this within a day or two as we await results of tests."

If they don't have the results of the tests, how can Holmgren proclaim Hartnell out indefinitely. Doesn't seem to jive.

I always took 'indefinitely' to mean that the amount of time is "not definite" (as in, they don't know). After the test results come back, they can give a more precise timetable.

Dude just be thankful your a flyers fan.

I enjoy the sport. I'm thankful the Flyers do everything they can to try and field a competitive team every year. The moves don't always work, but it's not for a lack of trying.

Any objective person would have to admit that this franchise has had rotten luck for a long time now. I can't explain it. I don't think there is an explanation for it.

Yep. I agree with you. But indefinite usually means an extended period of time. That is at least how I perceive it.

great, so no hartnell, briere, schenn, or rinaldo tomorrow. should be a fabulous game. these guys are going to need to dig deep. and now it looks like laughton is likely to stay.

another banner start! another injury-riddled, drama-laden season. never (frank)ing ends.

This sucks. I have zero feeling of optimism right now...at least a bad finish would be during a deep draft.

Preach on Hammar. It really is the same thing year after (frank)ing year. Oh well.

if there's any solace to this being a train-wreck of a season, at least we only have to watch it for 3 months, and the draft is deep.

Yeah. This isn't a playoff team, I'm convinced of that, but I don't think it is a bottom 5 type team in the NHL either. Maybe with the lottery the Flyers can get a top 5 pick, without a bottom 5 record. Not likely, but possible. The top 3 prospects are studs.

And almost certainly 4 tomorrow.

I'm not giving up or rooting against them. Not in the slightest. But realistically this is going to be a rougher year than usual.

i know, and there's plenty of time to turn it around - but the injuries, suspensions, losses - it already FEELS like we've being playing since october.

That is the meaning of the word yes, but when I see it, I assume it's a long term type injury. Do you ever see someone who is said to be out indefinitely return in 3 days? I'm sure it has happened, but that is the exception, not the norm.
- PLindbergh31

Not to be a nit picky jerk (i.e. totally to be), but I caught Holmger's vibe. I get where the miscue is detected, but saying it's indefinite in the same breath as we're awaiting further results was proper vocabulation in my brain.

Well, the Hartnell injury may be a blessing in disguise for Laviolette. The expectations are now lower, there is a bunch of youth on the team, so there was going to be growing pains regardless.

I said prior to the season this team could struggle to make the playoffs, and if they were crippled by injuries it would be a struggle.

Aye.. I was teasing.. I gave up on this team before the season started. I removed myself from my emotions for the team and realized they arent good enough.

I think its funny people dont want to trade our forward depth for dmen bc it woild leave a hole up front. The hole in the backend needs to be closed. Forward depth does no good if yoi have no defense.

Yeah. Technically it is. I would have probably said he's out tomorrow, and we await test results. Will have a further update based on the results. Semantics I suppose.

I didnt want them to make the playoffs at all. This team needs to learn that you have to play comolete games.

I feel like they think they are entitled to winning.

We really haven't had much luck on the injury front. Especially freak things like Pronger going down to a high stick, it's not easy to suck it up and carry on. But, then again, there's really no alternative. I can't exorcise the orange and black in my brain, so I'll just shake my fist at Murphy and his damned law.

It is starting to look like 2007 all over again. Talented rookies struggling thru a sophomore slump. Injuries to key veterans. All you need is crap goaltending and it will be identical. At least there is talent in this years draft.

I don't detect this in the slightest. I think these guys are very well aware things suck right now.
