Is Pronged still even around? I thought he went back to St Louis?
- nhindian

He was here helping out schenn and the team in a advisory role.

i want to tank this year.....trade kimmo briere and bring up Gus to replace kimmo...Make schenn second line center.
- Philly1980

If you think replacing Kimmo with Gus is a good idea you are severely overvaluing Gus or under-appreciating exactly what Kimmo does.

I would say it the same way if I had Scott Stevens and Niedemayer patrolling my neutral zone.

yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. That could easily escalate to a 2 - 10 record at the quarter pole ... or worse.
- FlyerGuy

I think they're mental toughness could become a very real issue. They basically quit last night after some unlucky bounces and seemed to get frustrated by the lack of offense. Hopefully someone (Briere maybe?) can calm them down and get things back to a neutral level.

I do.

The Flyers do not have as much talent as some of you think.

Therein lies the problem.

- BuffaloHardHat

I kinda have to agree, watching that game, I was thinking to myself, could they be too young? I think the answer is yes, you got Danny and Hartsy in the 30 plus then talbot and rusty and read (whose a soph) then like 6,7 guys under 24-23 years old. Defensively they're slow. Jersey dumped and chased and guys like mez and grossman were just gettin beat. I dont like to look at the numbers, b/c at the end of the day the only number that counts is 2 pts.

It's really pretty simple to understand. It's not a complicated game. System is just a word that some like to throw around.

My team plays that system. Defense pinches almost every time and the high forward drops back and the far side defense drops back into the neutral zone.

I would talk to the Islanders about Visnosky, Ottawa about Gonchar and, especially Calgary about J.Bo.
- spatso

Those players would help, but none of them is the player they need. And unless Calgary is going to unload Bowmeester real cheap, I'm not interested.

Anyone remember if Lavy has used any of his timeouts so far? Last year he liked to call in the players and get them back on track. Don't recall that yet.

Having Niedermeyer and Scott Stevens on defense with Brodeur in net probably helped a little.

Is NJ the only team that has played a trap. And I guess that Hall of Fame players such as Scott Stevens, and future hall of Famers such as Brodeur, Neidermayer had nothing to do with it. It was all the system and the trap.

Coburn is a solid defenseman. Del Zotto is a 22 year old player who was an RFA.

That's what I have been saying all along. The team has been executing so poorly. it's hard for me to fault the system or even the lack of mobility on defense.

Yes, there has been a few instances where the lack of mobility has been an issue, but for the most part that has been where a turnover or other mistake ended up leaving the defensemen in a bad position.

I do agree that the players that Holmgren added don't exactly fit the system Laviolette used last year. The effort was there-he tried to land Weber and Suter-but they ended up not landing either.

That means it's incumbent on Laviolette to make changes. I think he has made changes, but the poor execution has made those changes moot.

- Jsaquella

Exactly. I agree with this post 100%. End the thread (please).

He is the easier target right now because one trade won't help the problems. Shame because I like him as our coach.

If we are out of it coming up to trade deadline. Kimmo should bring a 2nd rounder from a cup contender. Would his cap hit be prorated for the rest of the season for the trading team? Would like to see him get a real shot at the Cup He just cant save our bacon anymore.

Nobody will take Briere, if he has a similar regular season as last year, they need to buy him out.

yeah i think something happened in the off season....there no reason they have an assistant coaching watching the game from the booth....somethings going on here.
