I doubt he's overrated.. If he is still rated #5 in that draft. I watched him play here and people in the crowd were amazed at how good he is. Rielly is going to be a top pairing defenceman in the league someday.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

I think most pre-draft rankings had him pegged somewhere between 7-12.....i know a lot of people (including several leaf fans during the draft) were shocked that he went at 5, and within a few weeks, burke aswell as many many leaf fans were saying that if he hadn't been hurt during the year, he would have been the consensus #1 pick.

Richard, Schultz CAN'T have much to learn. You led me to believe that Schultz was already an all-world player, as he dominated players who aren't NHl caliber all fall/winter long. I mean, obviously he doesn't have the stats against a top rookie like Patrick Wiercioch, but he should still be Norris caliber by early February, right?

so many (frank)ing donkeys this early??? did you even watch either of his games so far? shut the (frank) up troll

LOL Lu is NOT going to Edmonton. No way in HELL they trade him to divisional rival. Doesn't make any sense. Read LESS into what Gillis is saying, it's all a ploy. Only 2/3 teams have a legit shot at Lu.

A defenceman going 1st overall, he would have to be very good. Its really early still and he hasn't even played an NHL game yet. I don't want to get too excited about Rielly but he's making it difficult.

Reilly is damn good at least in the small sample size I watched in the world juniors. But to the leaf fans blasting Schultz ... wtf the kid has played in 2 games, scored a goal and made a few mistakes but what other rookie defenseman hasn't. He has made a lot of really good plays too. Give the kid a break.

I enjoy the Oilers, and yeah i've watched the game...Shultz has been shakey at best on D. He's looked nice on offense, but my fear for him is turning into Mike Green V2.0. He's not Paul Coffey, folks.

he is smooth with the puck i was amazed the first time i saw him play. but its against kids take it with a grain of salt. I'm not saying he poop. I'm saying fans seem to think the kid game will translate to the NHL no problem.

thus a bit overrated

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying reilly isn't gonna be a great player.....i'd LOVE to have him on my team. my point was simply that leaf fans pump reilly's tires the exact same way oiler fans pump schultz's tires.

only team lockout to lockout not to make the playoffs, and haven't made a final since 1967, tell me how good your franchise is? when you bought your leafs jersey did it come with a brown paper bag?

everyone is the same. it's easier to get pumped over your prospects because you know more about them.

i was convinced last year that rundblad would have a shot at the calder......wasn't making ORR comparisons, but still, i thought (as well as many fans) that he was a can't miss prospect. (still think he's gonna be an offensive stud)

no offense, but if you're gonna talk smack about dubnyk, you should probably change your profile picture..........unless you're still a "monster" fan.

6. NY Islanders. Actually, doesn't Nino Niederreiter want out of there? Can he play center? The Islanders are moronic for not having this guy on their roster.

the only thing that i've every heard from oiler fans about schultz is that he has a good chance at winning the calder (which at this point is true), and that he's probably the best offensive d-man on their team (which is also true). the only person who's said anything crazy about schultz's potential is cloutier, and aside from being the biggest oiler homer on earth, he's also doing it for hits.

now as for reilly and gardiner. i read SEVERAL posts from leaf fans saying that reilly was clearly the most talented player in last years draft, and should have gone 1st overall. that he's NHL ready now, and would compete for the calder (this was before he was sent back to jr). i also read several posts last year, during the whole nash trade fiasco, that leaf fans didn't want to trade gardiner for nash, he was gonna be a franchise d-man, etc, etc. how is that any different from what oiler fans say about schultz. NOBODY ever said he was the next coffey, just that he has high-end potential, and that he was lights out in the AHL, all of which is true.
