Sorry if this has been addressed already, but there are a lot of comments....

Couts mentioned he liked the idea of acquiring Ben Bishop. What would the Oilers be willing to give up?

- Gord_Wilson_2.0

Nothing. Bishop would do nothing and improve nothing. I think the Oil remain as is at least until the Trade Deadline and see where they are.

tough one. thing is, we wouldnt be giving up on dubnyk if we wanted that deal. just someone to compete with him and/or give us insurance if dubs doesnt work out.

so basically a 1B or a backup goalie to us.

a decent prospect and a lower pick maybe

First I think Gagner again is taking the brunt of your too small theory. Horcoff is on PP1 because he is winning faceoffs where RNH isn't. Thats where Gagner's value comes from and if I am not mistaken he leads the team in points and had the shootout winner... in their only win. I think Hemsky is playing good but his passes are ridiculous. Racing up the side when we know he can cut to the net and instead he passes it in front when he is the only person in their end due to a line change? Yakupov's passes are going behind gagner and Hemsky in the neutral zone and he is not confident enough yet to carry the puck for any distance. That line in general needs to gel, it is not Gagner's fault.

I think getting Yakupov's and Schultz's first goals out of the way and a good loss will both help the team. Pressure off the kids and deflate some egos so they can stop trying to be fancy and get back to their bread and butter. Fast through the neutral zone, crisp passes and crashing the net. They looked like a team that first discovered the concept of the trap last night.

As for Dubnyk, those goals were brutal and he was not himself. No screens, no butterfly on some, others he barely moved as they flashed by him. It wasn't the dubnyk that played Sunday and that guy was not a top 15 NHL goalie either. Almost all of those shots were ones you could have expected him to save. Most were just hard shots. Thats what goalies are trained for. No change ups, no one timers or dekes. There was a slow one timer but dubnyk was not his normal position. If he was Marleau wouldn't have had room for a shot.

As for a market for Dubnyk, add Detroit to the list of trade partners. Howard is brutal. Might even be able to get rid of whitney for something vancouver could use on their second line. Pry one of Vancouvers deep defense away with potter, and the asset we get for whitney. Make room for Fitske and upgrade our top 4. As much as they like their dmen, they have no forwards right now. Which again is what makes Edmonton a good trading partner. We have an extra guy or two we can bring up for the right return.

However if we lose Gagner, I suggest a trade with Anahiem be proposed. Prospects and picks for Getzlaf. He is doing next to nothing for them this year and it looks more and more like they are not going to resign him. They lose Selanne next year and Koivu is soon to be playing shuffle board. They know they need to rebuild. Edmonton can't possible develop all the rookies we have. Guys like Musil and Pajarvii might never hit their full potential due to roster depth. Getzalf is a small gamble and I think he play a role that would fit with the team well. Plus Edmonton is one of the few teams that can offer so much to a team looking for a full rebuild and have the ability to take on the cap. I would even take him over anyone we draft first round if we get him now. I think that would be enough to make our first round late enough to make it a guessing game.

i agree with this, and it's why i think edm and ott would make bad trading partners in this case.

sens best bet for a deal involving bishop, IMO, would be to a team who have aging #1's, with nobody really waiting to take over (N.J., Cgy, maybe the islanders). or perhaps to a team who really just has no faith what so ever in what they have (tor, chi, wash)

actually, i think a GREAT trading partner would be phx. mike smith played really well last year, but it's possible it was just a flash in the pan, and beyond him, not sure phx has much in teh way of goaltending. they also need forwards, and have a buttload of depth on defense.
i think sending bishop + forward to phx for defense would be the ideal situation for both teams.

getz is doing next to nothing??????!

he has 4 points in 2 wins! hes worth way more than your proposed deal.
getzlaf/rnh as our 1 and 2 centers make this team formidable. he'd change the dynamic of this team completely on so many levels..overnight

and its not about gagner sucking. he doesnt. hes just the odd man out kinda. we have one big hole in our top 6, and its his spot. hes the weak link at this point. if we make a deal we certainly aint moving rnh or hall or ebs or yaks or hemsky (hes been playing great)
he just doesnt seem to have the game to create time and space for yaqks or hemmer. and hes is small/
he battles his heart out though..

i dunno, its early. but if someones going. i can bet its him

neither team wants this deal. the oil certainly wouldnt give up one of the untouchables for nino, and the isles prob wouldnt give up a bluechip kid like him for dubs

i almost think if we're dealing dubs with the intent to get lu back, we almost wouldnt want any salary coming this way.
unless its a bigger deal where we can unload more salary along with dubs and get a decentr 2C coming our way (gags gone to van of course)

I suppose it's one of those scenarios where we could conceivably throw buckets of assets at them, but if they're not rebuilding and want to keep him, they won't trade him.

i think nino's trade value has taken quite a hit. the fact that he's flat out said he wants out of long island, added to the fact that he has 3 pts in 65 nhl games, leads me to believe that even though he may still be a bluechip prospect, his trade value is probably not equal to that of a bluechip prospect.

What Nino is doing is not much different than Turris did if you ask me. so what did turris cost in a trade?

A 2nd round pick and Rundblad.....

I think the one team that scenario works with is the Isles. It's unfortunate for us that they don't have any NHL proven guys that are demanded out that could help us.

Although Lubo in for Whitney probably helps us

Got beaten up by a playoff team. LOL the oilers are full of soft small offensive players with no d or goaltending. Only homers like Cloutier would think this team could make the playoffs. Last place again.

1. it was speculation that nino said that. Katie strang is a ranger's homer who didnt do her research before posting. It turns out ninos agent recommended it, which is quite common for European Agents.
2. Nino is doing well in the AHL. Last year he played with cones for line mates with 6 minutes a game. in 2010 in 9 games with doug weight as his linemate he managed 2pts compared to last years 1 pt in 55 games. I wouldnt trade nino

Guess who the Sens gm traded to St. Louis to get the overrated Swede prospect? Their first round pick...which turned out to be Vladimir Tarasenko. Potential elite winger who is already lighting it up. Blues with a steal.

You seem to be trying to get Cloutier's goat. wouldn't you be better served to PM him?
