Yeah Howard was really great. Nyquist is still learning that some moves might work often in the AHL but not in the NHL against bigger, stronger, faster and smarter defensemen (Quincey not included )
- dcz28

true on Nyquist, Lehtonen was great too. a lot of shots from both sides.

thought it was important for Brunner to get his first goal. see if his game grows from here.

Brunner will be fine, 15 shots in three games, the whole line is going to explode and rack up a dozen points in one game soon. I hope! Got all three in keeper league, got Brunner with a fa pick, sweet!

Team looked as good as they did in Columbus.

A couple of puck luck breaks for Dallas, and Lehtonen was there. Quincey was not as much as an eye sore.... but he makes me cringe. Huskins was not bad at all, I really like this Lashoff, despite his error on the 2nd goal.

Boys should come around... hopefully they can put a little streak together for confidence sake.

We will need White though... trainers are busy these days in MoTown.

Not good on White - 3 weeks likely: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=414277

As for the game last night, only saw the first 2 periods but it could have gone either way, they played well so it's a tough loss. Nyquist definitely had some jump, saw him make a couple good moves and had a couple chances, definitely a lot more noticeable than Samuelsson out there.

Huskins looked solid, but he has his own injury issues so hopefully he can stick around a while, really can't afford to have another D man go down.

Fun fact: the Detroit Red Wings have allowed 11 goals this season. Kyle Quincey was on the ice for 6 of them, including ALL FOUR even strength goals against.

I know it's just a 3 game sample, but man is that brutal.

Best option I think is try to trade the ones we don't want in a package deal for one good player or possibly get some draft picks. Problem is their market value is crap, so not much we'd get back without throwing in at least one good prospect... but Holland isn't going to do that. Maybe use the buyout clause on a couple of the old vets and use the cap money saved for a free agent that comes available down the road. There are options if Holland want's to be creative.

Got any better ideas ?? Let's hear them. God forbid we actually move some of these sorry older, useless veterans that can't get the job done anymore. If you can't see that this team isn't going anywhere with the likes of Samuelsson, Cleary, Bert, Emmerton, Mursak then you're in total denial of reality. Seriously... you think that kind of lineup even comes close to matching up with any of the top teams in either conf. If the top forwards get hit with a serious injury (Datsyuk, Hank, Franzen, Filpula)... It will be a complete nightmare.

Wow... that is a telling stat. The powerplay is now 0-15 through the first three games. That needs to change very soon or this team is going nowhere.

I'd have to think Montreal would match any offer thrown at him unless it was a huge overpayment, but at this point it may be worth overpaying. The UFA defencemen list isn't all that impressive for the summer anyway so a trade or RFA signing is probably the only shot at a legitimate upgrade.

you know it's funny. If they would match any offer for sake of losing him, just give him what he wants then.

Pavel Datsyuk might just drag this team into the playoffs, kicking and screaming, by himself. He is just stupid good. May he never age.

ditto, I trashed Lashoff earlier saying he was a give away and I stand corrected, he has been good this year. Huskins is exactly what the Wings needed, no flash but solid and can log some pretty big minutes if needed.

with Huskins in tow, it is like (2) Ian Whites by way of comfort for me.

Kronwall is getting better offensively, but I find he is taking WAY too many lazy penalties, he has to rid himself of that.

Helm is SUCH a difference maker with game flow... It's interesting to see if Bert can actually find another gear one last time with a shortened season. He really does seem to click with Datsyuk.

Brian Lashoff TOI: 18:36
Jakub Kindl TOI: 16:17

Maybe they're just protecting him coming back from injury, but if that sort of breakdown continues for the next few games I imagine that Mr. Kindl might be nearing the end of the road as a Red Wing. Or, he would be, if the Red Wings had any kind of blueline depth.

Something that blew me away when I realized it this evening: Jakub Kindl was drafted almost 8 YEARS ago.

Anyway, enough positives to go around for me not to rip the D too much tonight. Datsyuk was dominant. Bertuzzi looked 10 years younger. Brunner still looking much better than I expected. PP finally had some life and there were some good PKs in the mix. Even Q was +2, which I suppose has to happen every once in a while, even for him.

Discipline has to improve, though. Waaaaay too many penalties, again. Part of that was on the refs, yeah, but plenty of lazy, stupid infractions.

Agreed.

Cleary is starting to annoy me as much as Quincey. I really like Miller's work on the PK too.

Once again Brunner proves hes the real deal with that opening goal.

Crazy how much of a difference having Helm and Bert in the line up makes. Why some people think he should be traded is beyond me

I wasn't able to see all the game but I did notice that Lashoff is really playing well so far in Detroit. Wasn't sure if he was ready for prime time but he's logging good minutes and he's steady, but not flashy. Hopefully, he'll keep getting better. Huskins is doing about what I expected. At least the Wings FINALLY SCORED SOME GOALS ! Overall very good game for them against a good Wild team. It was great to see Helm back... having him back in the lineup makes a huge difference on this team. Glad to see Eaves back too.

I keep seeing Cleary getting out-muscled and beaten off the puck. He's just not effective anymore. Was happy to see Bert put some goals in the net... this shortened season may help him a lot. Now if he could just stay healthy... but I won't hold my breath. I sure as heck hope Holland pulls Nyquist, Tatar or Andersson up to Detroit and actually gives them some more ice time to see if they can earn a roster spot.

The Griffins lost 1-0 tonight after a 3 game win streak. Their still winning even without Smith (who was their best defenseman). This Griffins team has some depth and still leading their division and also near the top of their conference. AHL playoffs will be fun this year.

I doubt Kindl will stay in the lineup much longer. The only reason he's getting ice time is because the D is so banged up. He has been a huge disappointment for a 1st round draft pick. Smith and Lashoff have already surpassed him as far as their development. I could be wrong... but I don't see Kindl having a future with the Wings but we'll see if he can prove me wrong. Sometimes it takes a while for these defensemen to really develop.

I had pretty low expectations for Brunner, hadn't even looked him up on youtube or anything, but I've been very impressed with him. Definitely looks like he belongs and has had a ton of chances, could definitely put up some points.

Helm 100%. Bertuzzi still has his place, yeah he's not fast but he's got the hands for powerplay and offensive zone.

Always liked Huskins, definitely liked that they grabbed him. I knew we had Lashoff, but have never seen him play or really heard anything about him, he's looked real good too.
