Fair enough I stand corrected. If the ability to pick up salary in a future year is an option I'd say they do that. However this year they could do 1 or 2 million, depending on how much cap relief they get from the Kesler/Booth injuries.

The point could be made that this is what's holding up a trade as well. Once Kesler/Booth return they will know exactly how much room there is for this season as far as retaining salary in trade.

Its all how you spin it pal. I understand that being a Leaf fan you look at everything from the "worst possible" perspective but we dont do that out here. Van will be just fine with the cap....We can't afford to take the same $$ back in a Luongo trade so thats not gonna happen. I'll post this again in the summer when the cap goes down and Van is still under the cap........this is more likely scenario.

bieksa hamhuis - 9.1

that's a total of 60.1. leaves 4.4m to sign 3 players (or leaves 4.4m to absorb in money coming back from a luongo trade).

i was the one that crunched those numbers.

1) higgins and lappy this year are a combined 2.9. i factored in raises for both and allowed them 3.5. that increase represents a 20% pay raise for both. if you think they'll get more off of this new cba, we'll agree to disagree.

2) the numbers allow for 4.4m to be used for salary coming back in a luongo deal and for signing 3 players (if they are not included in that deal).

I bet you 100 dollars they will still be better then toronto.

Do I pretend to know all about YOUR team and its situation? No I do not. I do know my team pretty well though. AND in keeping with our "overrated" and " poopty" GM's philosophy of signing players that want to be here, I'd expect Higgins and Lapierre will be resigned to modest raises and not close to the ones YOU expect. I also do not expect the roster that YOU expect the canucks to be. Which is why your numbers/speculation for the roster are WRONG.

In no way did I ever say they would have the same team. I'm saying the core will remain the same. Some of our so called "poopty" prospects/younger players will probably make the team next year as well. AND they will be COMFORTABLY under the cap next season. With or without a Luongo trade.

You're right, Vancouver's team won't be the same, it will be sh1ttier.

The depth at forward and goalie will be less. The Sedins are a year older and now past their prime. Kesler's annually rebuilt body can't last. The Canucks prospects pool isn't that deep. Next seasons Canucks roster will be littered with league min. players. The Northeast division is getting tougher and tougher etc etc etc Do you or can you deny anything I've just said? No.

What he's saying is that he has completely f'd up this situation, treated Luongo like poop in the process, ruined the team that two previous GM's built... signed useless UFA's and made one pretty awful trade so far.
