the leafs may not be able to help them with their luongo situation.. but maybe we can throw all that aside and still do them a favour.

That was neither funny or insulting. Both of your hopes for the post failed.

I like how Gillis is acting like he's dictating all the deal terms. As if he's trying to deal Luongo to the highest bidder. Last I checked Luongo has a NTC and has the final say in where he ends up, so I'm not really sure how Gillis is going to have the flexibility to nit pick about what's coming back on the other end of a deal. That is if his sole intention is to move him.

Any team willing to make a trade that Luongo would give the OK to is still going to have to take on that behemoth contract of his, and that alone to me is what is going to dictate the trade terms.

I look at it like this.
Leafs have lots of $ to buy out Bryz at the end of the year.

I like Liles but I don't think there is room for him with offensive dmen up and coming in Gardniner/Reilley. unloading his contract will be a plus ina few years.

Maccarthur is a poor mans Kessel, (we don't need to small speedy wingers) and would be a major upgrade with Simmonds.

So really all your giving up is a decent 2nd tier prospect and a lot of $ to get a solid blue chip prospect in Simmonds.

The only good thing about Bryz coming to the leafs is getting to hear more of his knowledge of the universe on next seasons hbo 24/7

Obviously Luongo gave him the thumbs up if he makes a bold statement like this.

I dont think inserting thumbs into another mans bumhole is an endorsement. I guess they do things different in Vancouver?

I think their issue is there is absolutely no point in discussing trade proposals that have no basis or chance of happening. So you'd be better off posting that stuff in a Canucks blog..... They are more familiar with that there.

Good point. But I still think Gillis needs to be a bit more of a gracious trade partner. Obviously Vancouver needs to get back some talent, but whoever they do end up trading with is doing him a massive favor by taking on Lu's contract as well.

gillis has backed himself into a corner with nothing short of amateur moves. bad contract (money and NTC), publically pining him.. now playing games with his value. he's (frank)ed himself, and now he's playing roulette trying to get something out of him.

Yip, I agree with all of this

Not to mention how he (frank)ed himself with the terrible Hodgson deal and now he's trying to save face by pulling off a miracle in the Luongo deal.

This is a man who knows his job is on the line. Hasn't won a cup yet and his window of opportunity is closing faster and faster.

I'll almost guarantee it'll be Sharks for Pav or Sens for Turris. They're the best suitors IMO. Out of the two, I'd say Sharks are the most likely. Pavelski is what Vancouver needs, and the Sharks need a more solid goaltender than Nemo. I feel that if Luongo gets a fresh start and some new scenery, he'll return to his old form.

No Ek i have to disagree, Toronto is not the center of the hockey universe when it comes to Luongo. After 2 games I am pretty sure Nonis is quite happy with Scrivens.

Even after we get blown out by the Pens and Rangers and probably lose to the islanders nonis will still be quite happy with Scrivens and Reimer.

So Chicago, SJ, Wash, Philly, Edmonton and the rest of the other 29 teams bid away on Luongo please and get him some where else so the rumors can end about the Leafs.

yes.

don't forget overpaying garrison for 6 years.. leaving 5/6ths of your blueline paid over 4.5 mil a season, and the first one off the books in 2015.

he already has 60.5 million spent for next season. with malholtra, higgins, raymond, lapierre, ebbet, volpatti, andre alberts.. and barker to be signed, or replaced. then he has to give raises to kassian, tanev, and wiese.

the future is weak at best. gaunce, schroeder... and corrado the next best things coming in?

gillis has (frank)ed this team right up. he's a less on the radar version of JFJ.

So why discuss Flyers/Luongo at all then?

Let's face it, Vancouver isn't taking on Bryzgalov's Contract.
The only way PhIlly deals for Luongo is if they first unload Bryzgalov.
The only team that has both the caps pace to carry him now, and financial wherewithall to buyout Bryzgalov this summer is Toronto.

Its actually not well played at all...it smells of a rookie GM or a guy who was barely a decent agent in his day...
It says we have nobody wanting lou and his contract unless we take huge contracts back. Lets be reminded of the fact that lou only wants to to 2 places maybe 3.The leafs are doing well with scrivens so the longer gillis waits the less likely the leafs want him.Hes dealing with a smart GM in nonis not some egomaniac like himself in burke. The only reason to go public is cause he has nothing to bring home in a trade that he can sell his gullible fans with. The same as when he says players took discounts to sign in vancouver (ballard, hamhuis, bieksa, edler).

nobody is dealing for luongo. there's not really anywhere's where there's a good fit, let alone giving up quality assets to be stuck with that contract?

gillis will play this game for the next 48. then he's gonna scott gomez him in the summer to make one last ditch effort to save this cap situation he's got himself wrangled into.

Lots of teams can afford to buy him out, and you dont need cap space to do it. The problem is, no owner is dumb enough to pay north of 30 million for a guy not to play.
