Garrison was a 6th 7th defensman for a good portion of his career on the Panthers. One good season does not justifie why he should be making 4million a year.

Isn't that around what the Leafs paid JEFF FRIGGING FINGER lol Who had how many good seasons previously???

I've never understood how any logical Vancouver fan thinks that's ground to yap the leafs on.

Vancouver hasn't won anything ever. Not since dinosaurs.

The intelligent people in your fan base are grimacing everytime they see that approach go into action.

Dont forget the ones they used to get Richards and Carter to fill the missing pieces to the puzzle.
- systemtool

Agreed. But that was done at the right time. Had they done that one or two years earlier, they may not have made the same kind of run.

My point is, when developing a team from the ground up, I think you first draft/acquire young talent, then you develop it through experience, and finally you make the 'impact' trades when you're ready to contend.

LA did it with Richards/Carter
Chicago did it with Hossa +
Anahiem did it with Pronger/Nieds.

Your team is successful now. The leafs were successful then. One day that will change, and then change again. End of story. Please kiss and make up.

I love how EK has to mention the Leafs because he knows they have the most fans that come on this site, mentions = hits. That being said, I could really see him going to Washington, if Luongo accepted to go there. Not sure what Washington could give for Lu, perhaps a guy like Marcus Johansson and a pick?

I laughed when I heard this this morning.

How is it well-played. It is obvious what Gillis is doing.

He is getting desparate.

- Aetherial

When gillis signed that contract, they married luongo. He should just keep him, and trade Schneider. More interest, and they'll get more value. If luongo is as legendary as every Canuck fan would have you believe, this shouldn't be a big deal.

They're stuck with luongo. There just isn't a fit anywhere. They can look at any return as similar to what Sutter got for phaneuf. Or what JS gigiere came to Toronto for.

It would be hilarious if gillis was stuck with him all year, and ended up having to make him the teams Scott Gomez. That would be beautiful.

In a cap system, I'd be hard pressed to find another one.

Even Boston 2yrs ago...most of their core was drafted/acquired at a young age and developed.

You can't argue that the Canucks haven't been a successful team, back to back presidents trophy winners and a trip to the finals is pretty good in my book.

This isnt about Jeff Finger nor the leafs.....Gillies is a good GM imo and in his defense the Canucks offense is pretty banged up , probably one of the reasons why people are going saying things look bleak when on paper they actually have a good lineup able to contend for the cup.
