DiPeitro, a prospect and a 2nd, buy out Rick in the summer
- Jimmy_wiener

Gillis has already stated that he won't accept that, I wish you Toronto fans would.

I say Stamkos wins the big three this year, Hart, Art Ross and Richard Trophies.

Gillis hates the Leafs as much as everyone else, no deal...he's going to Long Island.
- LeftCoaster

Damn Toronto media messed up his deal with NYI. Gillis just has the worst luck getting this trade done.

His point was that RNH was injured and still was runner up and would have won if he didnt get hurt? Come on man, dont throw your pride into the mud just because thats where his is right now.

- systemtool

Dude, why are you such a tool? I believe that Ian's point was that the season is long(ish) and you never know what will happen. RNH was a favourite to win, he got injured, and didn't.

well is name is systemtool ... but yea i think you're the tool here, getting a little butt hurt this early? not good... but after losing 7-3 and 3-2 to the 25th and 29th placed teams last year i can understand the butt hurt

he was injured....
- SpoiledByOil

Even if he was healthy it would have been a toss up imo.

If I had a vote, it would have went to Gabs

top 25 in +/- (+20)
top 20 in hits (219)
top 30 for forwards in BLKs (58)
top 30 in takewawys (58, forwards)

It would be close, but Gabs was the more complete player last year. he played the PP and PK and was able to contribute at both ends.

Gillis is the second coming of Brian Burke, he's a bit of a d!ck head but just not as out there as Burkie regarding the media. This will get done when he finds the right deal. We're two games into the season, a lot of good goaltenders struggled in the first few games. People are making way more outta this than it deserves, guess the media needs something to talk about.

that makes sense.. I do believe a full season of Hopkins would of won, but obviously he got hurt. I really liked the way Landeskog played last year and have no problems with him winning it

I'm not "butt hurt" whatever that is, the guy is a tool. Want my opinion? I think Tarasenko is among the strongest candidates to win the calder, today, and If I was picking the trophy winners for the end of the season, he would be at the top of my list, but I think its pretty silly to pick the leagues best players today when some teams have only played one game. So I agree, Ian is way off base.

Seems like a decent guy, who should figure it out. But I think it is going to take time.

I see a quick start. Strugles in the middle. and a decent finish.
Overall- 9th place

- IanEsplen

I've seen your predictions....so I will place little stock in them.

As has been pointed out: Kesler. The guy will be lucky to be back practicing with contact by game 40. It will be somewhere in the low 30s at least before he is truly in game shape. Losing 25% of the season will ruin his chance at a Selke nomination. Maybe next year.

Washington may have some legs, time will tell. They have depth and they're only missing the top end goaltender.

I like them both too.

I found last year that Gabs is the kind of player you notice every shift and that Nuge is one of those guys you can kind of lose track of and at the end he's got three points.

both are outstanding players.

Cut Mr. Esplen some slack: dude's gotta file a column, and the Canucks have an off day in the schedule.

It sure beats a blog on the possibility of Lu being traded to Toronto.
