Not a personal attack or a Clifford the dog reference here, but do you seriously see the Flames having some success this year? Lets be realistic. They lost their two first games against non-playoff teams, and they're going to lose a lot more games this year against better teams. I'm a Calgarian and I'd like them to do well, but a full rebuild is in order, and has been for years.

Look, we can talk about the"rebuild" day in day out, but it gets old realllllll quick, and most of us who come on here daily are over that conversation. There's still a season to be played here, no reason we can't talk about the games, what has happened, what should happen, who played well, who played awful etc.

Cripes, they need a new doc.

With Hudler and cervenka in the mix, who would sit?

I guess it's horak and stajan. Would like to say coumeau but keep stajan or horak on the 4th line isn't a good fit.

- numbear

Honestly.....If they sit Horak instead of Stajan or Comeau I will not be happy!

Just an FYI...but it appears Cervenka's appointment yesterday was cancelled and wont be seeing the doc. until today.

If he's not ready to go, the Flames need to addess the top line center position. Tanguay doesn't look right and he's probably the worst faceoff guy on the team. I think Stajan would do much better.

Seriously though....you're telling me a franchise like the Flames can't find another specialist? Is this the only guy that can treat Cervenka?

I still think until Cervenka is ready they should put Cammy up with Tangs and Iggy and move GlenX to play with Backs and Baert.

This year is probably the first that we are seeing the results of the rebuild in progress.
New coach
RH offensive d finally in our ranks
Prospects getting decent ice time
And hopefully a new center to try out

Still missing the elusive 1st line center that's lacked for over a decade. And Richards was the last attempt to fill that, but it didn't pan out.

2 games in isn't panick time. It's going to be a tough season again. But at least we are seeing pucks in the net this year. So that's fixed.

And kippers not to his usual form yet

Yeah it makes you think this could be a bigger problem than first thought.

I dont mind my thoughts or blogs being challenged at all...but in a grown up way.

For sure I see some possible success this year for the Flames. The two teams they have played so far are in fact playoff teams, at least the Sharks will be. What's not being considered by many, it seems, is that although all teams had a short training camp etc, most are coming in with the same lines, same coaches, same systems etc.

The Flames did not have this luxury. They need to try and learn their coaches systems as fast as possible, all while allowing some new guys to fit in and young guys to find their stride. There is (possibility) for success, and while it may not be in their favour, Feaster and Harltey are two competitive hockey guys who can push this team.

As Ive mentioned many times over...the team will fight night in night out and see what comes of it. If 20-25 games in they are not a likely playoff candidiate, then I could see them entertain the idea of moving key guys. But I really dont want to discuss that anymore at this point, as the season just begun and Im content with the product they've iced so far.

I'm thinking maybe this diagnosis is not that urgent? I know people who have had blood clots, and it's not a matter of the clot clearing up, but they need to finish all of their medication before returning to normal activities. If he was on the brink of playing he would have seen someone by now IMO

Not sure whether you get this or not, but your not a main stream journalist. This blog isn't even close to exciting as "Clifford the Big Red Dog goes to school" that i read with my grade 1 boy yesterday. Cutting and pasting comments from every newspaper then writing comments about the flames "working on plays" will not cut it in hockeybuzz. For gods sake create some buzz. Who is likely to be traded first. Iggy or Kippper? You think they are playing "better than expected"? Did you not write a blog about making the playoffs? How is two losses better than expected? Your at home for 5 games including Van and Edm you have lost the first two. At what point are you going to write something that is worthy of hockeybuzz columnists. Make something up, say something that will draw hits, bash the Oilers, bash Vancouver. This blog is an epic fail, with no information whatsoever. Can't believe I actually read it. At least yesterday I had an excuse to read Clifford the big Red Dog

Is (frank) off passionate enough for you? If you dont like the read then just dont come around. You arent a fan, just a slime ball trying to find some stinky skank to wet your whistle with.

I'm not a Dr but from what I understand the problem is that it's the blood thinners that he has to take after the clot. Players on blood thinners can't play in many cases because they could bleed out internally with a good hit. From people I've knows with clots the thinners could be required for a long period of time. One girl I know had clots a year ago and is still on thinners. Hopefully a specialist has ways around this to get him up and running this season.

Oh, certainly...but I mean....throughout both the US and Canada, is there really no one else he was able to see faster? Unless it really didnt matter regardless as he might still be a few days/week away from returning. There should be some updates from his agent later on Im sure...so hopefully we'll have some good news.

Hey Colin! Good blog. 2 games & we have to try & be positive. I think many of us are pretty realistic going in that we have a new coach, new system, no training camp to speak of, our main core was inactive during the lockout, a team that has been slow out the gate in the best of scenarios does not add up to a good prognosis. Yes we can get into possibilities in 20 games or so.

I for one are looking for future positives. I like the Backs Sven pairing & many of us think we need to get Cammi off that line. GlenX would be worth a looksey but I wouldnt hesitate seeing how Hudler can fit as well. Not playing Brodie was a mistake in game 1 & he was proven out. Personally, I have more confort with Brodie than I do with JBO. To me JBO needs a new team, lots of skill but the weight of expectation here seems to haunt him. I would love to see us move him for a young pice to play with the double B's. Let Brodie take his place in the top 4. Kipper has been letting to many rebounds, more than his normal usual self. He usually doesnt play well against Vanc so I wouldnt be suprised to see Leiland in tomorrow. Comeau better pick his game up & Stajan has been better but he's so soft on the puck. Horak deserves to be in the lineup. Horak GlenX & Stempniak seems like a pretty responsible 3rd line.

Colin, for what its worth, you are one of the few BLOGGERS (hopefully fuknuts sees this) that isn't blinded (completely) by the homerism most bloggers on this site have. You've done a great job since signing on so kudo's my friend...

Nice to see the Oilers fans are now on par with the Canucks fans owith their arrogance. Looking forward to seeing how tomorrow turns out against the Nucks and Saturday should be fun with the 2013 Stanley Cup Champs...

Hopefully Hudler is back by the Oilers game (and emotionally ready). if we lose both these games-yikes...

Apparently the specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix is one of the best... I guess he (Crevenka) isn't big enough of a star yet...

I'm not going to respond to the trolls, Colin, you did just fine with that...

I agree with you though, I'm seeing positives with this team too. There's obviously some rust out there right now... (Kipper losing his net a few times, and being slow to pounce on loose pucks in his crease, and Wideman apparently playing with someone else's stick or something...) but on the whole they're moving the puck way more effectively than they did last year, and they're generating good scoring chances.

If they could actually win a few faceoffs and control the puck a bit more I think they'll see some success.

Tanguay was somehow actually good in the 2nd yesterday, but I think you're right. Maybe they should consider having Iggy take the draws for him or something if they want to keep him up there.

Andrew Walker from the Fan960 says Nino Niederreiter wants out of NY......say's the Flames need to explore options due to the Baertschi connection.

Thoughts? What could we get him for? Prospect and a pick?

He was LOST out there....aside from his apple on the PP.... I don't like these lines Hartley is tossing together. Baertschi with Stajan? Poor kid.
