No because that would be more of the same. Just another random, not well thought out response.

I dont think they looked that bad the first two games. Bad luck and bad officiating made it seem worse.

What I want to see is a change in the system. We have some incredibley talented two way forwards that I see being misused. We dint need an all out attack system. We need a patient defensive mindset that forces turnovers and odd man rushes. Maybe im just holding on to the old NHL mind set.. I really miss old hockey.

- Flyersgod

I think there have been tweaks to the system. They have been more aware of keeping a forward high, and there has been better support from the forwards. But they have shot themselves in the foot with poor execution and ill advised decisions that make me unsure of how the tweaks will really work.

The key with what Laviolette does is good outlet passing, more so than pure mobility from the defense. The concern I have is on odd man rushes, getting the forward support back. Obviously, they don't have anyone that has the tools that Matt Carle brought, and I think that the coaches recognize that and have adjusted.

But Laviolette, whatever tweaks get made, is going to attack. There's no two ways about that.

Its an opinion I was asked to elaborate on. Not an argument.

Lets see who is right at the end of the year?

- Flyersgod

That (see at end of the year) would be sensible. It is an argument if you're on a forum and someone counters your opinion.

No, but you'd be better off if you didn't expect:
a) Everybody to agree with you, or
b) That everybody demands you agree with them

It's a forum. There's no prize for changes of opinion nor 'winning' a discussion. If there were, it'd probably be cheap and insulting, anyways.

Seriously a must read... not because of the penalty, but because of the story that follows.

Which we just saw happen 16 months ago when Giroux had to assume more responsibility & grow. Short memories...
- Flyskippy

No unpossible.

I'm very willing to give it some time but I'm curious about how the first line is made up. We saw how great it looked last year when Giroux had another guy (Jagr) who thinks like him and knows where to be. Again, this is something hopefully Schenn and Giroux can develop and get that chemistry. At this point I view Schenn as a more offensively gifted Hartnell...physical, but isn't a guy who will control the puck and play give and go with Giroux.

Obviously Hartnell is a great compliment to Giroux because he finds the open areas and has a good one-timer shot. Early on, Schenn looks a little like JVR did last year when he played with Giroux & Jagr...just not sure where to be and at times just trying to get out of Giroux's way.

But again, worth giving time to gel.

My specualtion is, and I'll emphasize specualtion, is that Laviolette has changed his forecheck in the first few games, due to the situation. That there hasn't been much practice time, and the team as whole doesn't have it's legs yet. I fully expect that when he thinks that the team is ready, he goes back to using a press forecheck and get's a lot more aggressive.

I'd like for them to round out the top line. If voracek isnt our first line rw then we need to get one.. I want to see giroux grow with a line.. instead of mix and match line mates his entire career.

I think this team has plenty of offense with forwards. Any moves that are made should be to upgrade the defense in my opinion.

Flyers had a lot of goals from the rookies last year. It was kinda expected offensive output would drop off a bit at beginning of season wasn't it? Especially with Briere out.
