Lets cut to the chase. Carle sucked, was overpaid, and is gone.

Carle had great synergy with Pronger.
I wonder if Pronger didn't get hurt, would Carle still be a Flyer?

I wouldn't say that Carle excelled defensively. But I would disagree that Carle was defensively a turnstile, or that he was subpar defensively. That's an innacurate description in my opinion. Carle was solid in his own end. Nothing special, but he was reliable. And a very good shot blocker.
- MJL

Agree with all of this.

Unfortunately, his skills were priced out of the Flyers' market.

Probably not only because Carle with Pronger looks like a better player than Carle with our 6th/7th/8th defenseman, and that Carle would get paid more. I would assume.

Yes, turnstile was harsh. And I know he was the popular defensive whipping boy. There were just too many instances where he was caught standing still or waving his stick as he watched a forward go flying past him towards the goalie. I know you have to take the good with the bad, but not at the price he got. So I'll relent; they lost a good puck-mover who had a share of defensive shortcomings.
- jmatchett

Carle was a solid defenseman. He was reliable defensively. Good at positioning and reading plays. Evidenced by his high shot blocking totals every Season. Where he had issues was in physical battles around the net. He wasn't a big guy.
With the future cap reduction, and the Flyers Cap situation going forward. Along with the Flyers need to replace Pronger and an aging Timonen. it wold have put the Flyers in a bind to re-sign Carle at that proce. Carle is not that player. So I'm okay with it. It will hurt them in the short term, but hopefully then can somehow find a way to get the player the need. And hopefully other players can step up and offset the loss of Carle.

I'm not going to make a big debate out of it, and I really don't think the difference of opinion here is negligible (let's be frank, Carle is one of a few player people rehash for no reason but their personal feuds, and I ain't talking about you sir). But at the end of the day, you're spot on about at least one thing: He got a healthy salary, and that price point didn't mesh with the Flyers plans.

At the end of the day, the relevant fact is that the Flyers will need the blueliners they have to improve their puck movement, unless they intend to add somebody with that skillset.

My biggest knock on Carle is his muffin shot, for a puck moving offensive minded defenseman he shot like a 4 year old.

Edit: if he got it to the net.

Problem Solved

- KINGKENZO

No way.

JVR is a building block for the Leafs now.

Guy has superstar written all over him.

You want him back, you are going to have to pay so much for him it hurts.

We're talking 1st round picks, Giroux, prospects,....

Hey, you gonna eat the rest of that pizza?

Maybe we could work out a deal. I'm pretty hungry, and that pizza looks mighty good right about now.

He sure could rack up the apples, but at his price point the goal totals are unspectacular.

1 slice pepperoni, 2 slices plain, and a 2nd round pick for JVR. GID Holmger.

Its unfortunate that you allow your disdain for certain players to blind you of their ability.

Leafs are now reporting that you just hurt JVR's feelings with that comment. He's out 4 to 6 weeks.

This whole trade is now in jeopardy.

Thanks, JMatchett. Thanks for blowing it.
