It was a generally good effort despite Carlyle shoe-horning Holzer and Fraser into their first games in a long while (or first ever in Holzer's case). Very impressed with Kostka right now, but I think they need to reduce his minutes to let him further get used to the game...don't want him to start making Phaneuf-like mistakes because he's tired.

Scrivens has been what the Leafs have needed so far...steady and making the saves he should be making. I don't blame him on either goal, the first one was a Sabres' bounce, and the second was a 1-on-0 where he was simply out-waited.

he was brutal on that second goal.. he was in position and didnt set himself properly.. game him the 5 hole. that being said, he didnt get much help from his D either.

first goal wasnt his fault at all.

VANCOUVER SUN: Cam Cole interviewed Canucks GM Mike Gillis about his efforts to trade Roberto Luongo and the depth of his roster in the absence of Ryan Kesler and David Booth to injuries. Gillis explains Luongo’s “no-trade” clause and the recent lockout were factors in not moving the veteran goalie. Gillis claimed he has “a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have — and it’s not who anybody thinks it is — and so we have to wait.”

the way i have been seeing things shape out i'd like a look at:

JVR Kadri Kessel
Lupul Grabovski Mac
Kulemin Bozak Komarov
Orr McClement Brown

either way, you can tell the leafs havent found their scoring stride.. I mean as a whole they are only scoring at a 1.5 GPG pace.. and Kadri is at 1 GPG

that means the rest of lineup outside of Kadri has been responsible for half a goal a game

- Dozzer

I was actually impressed last night. I thought we would get hammered. Defensively we look better (so far). I like the 3rd line and the 4th line. We look like we have a bit of toughness. I think McClement has played well. I'd forgotten what a decent PK actually looks like. 1st line should be OK when they get their timing back. We need the 2nd line to start clicking, which i think it will in time. One player that's annoyed me so far is JVR. Puck is always in hs skates and he keeps hammering passes at Kadri. If it wasn't for Miller and a few posts we'd be 2-0. So far im pretty happy. Actually looks like here's a game plan.

Not holzer's first game, heard it repeatedly last night on the broadcast. Do they even do their research?

He's played 2 games in 10-11.

Bozak role on that first line last night can't be overstated...the final push, really, was possible largely owing to the fact he wasn't losing very many faceoffs. He was also miscast as a PP point man, with Franson getting the day off. Having Gardiner and Franson back will definitely lead to more SOG on the PP, which was severely lacking on the 5-3s last night.

Oh for the love of god it better not be Gardiner. I would rather Nonis stay the (frank) away from Gillis right now, unless Vancouver is sweetening the pot. Scrivens has so far been reliable enough for the Leafs, so why would we start gutting a roster to fix a gap in the lineup that hasn't materialized.

you know who i thought has been absolutely horrible in the first 2 games, Macarthur.

grabo line has no chemistry going at all, i dont know why he and kulemin didnt play together in the off season, but it is what it is.

Macarthur wearing the A and playing like poop. - thankfully its only game 2.

leafs were so much better than buff last night, (frank) miller that string bean mook.

Agreed. The thing that has annoyed me about jvr is him missing the net so much. Hopefully that changes with timing.

Edmonton... Gillis is hoping to pry Hall, Eberle, and RNH for Lou, with Horcoff going also for salary reasons.

Not really. Really like that jvr is showing skill to get chances, he's just not shooting accurately right not which I hope/think changes with timing.

Schenn has been rather aweful so far for Philly

Nonis is probably not even returning his calls right now...there are a lot of goalies that are struggling out of the gate this year, even elite ones. Teams aren't going to be coerced into a panic move by Gillis before they truly see what they have. For Vancouver, it may be too late to fix other holes that have emerged for them.

That 5-on-3 was terrible. They moved way to slow.... Tried to group too close and made it easier to defend. Got to spread out and make quick passes to open seams. That didn't happen. Needs a lot of work.
