Calgary now 0 - 2. Two home loses. This season is not going to end well for Calgary. Too old, too slow, too sloppy. They should have started a rebuild, 4 years ago. Reminds me of the Leafs, after the Quinn era.

there's some expendables there.. with mac, franson for sure. i'd like to see frattin come up as the result of some of these extra's being packaged into a deal.

hard to say what a combo like that is worth though. maybe a brian elliot + mid round pick type deal? meh..

I'd rather someone a lil more proven....

I've just seen so many goalies have one great season and than disappear into the sunset

I wouldn't mind seeing this attempted at all.......

i think that first line could be devastating.

lupul with grabovski might be a nice tough as well.

but i like bozak between kulemin and macarthur. his sight may sort out their games. at the very least, we amp their games to get some proper trade value.

they're worth peanuts at this point..

Probably the best thing that could possibly happen to them. This team won't admit they need to rebuild until they are forced to believe it. This season hopefully accomplishes it. Their fans deserve better than a perpetual state of mediocrity.

id say their last chance at it. they can still move pieces to contenders and get some nice building blocks back

they go for it this year tho... they'll screw themselves

I see Halak was pulled today, in St. Louis. I'd like to see him here, back in the east. It would probably mean that we'd beat the Habs, most of the time, as he wants to show them that they traded the wrong goalie. Just don't know what we could add to St. Louis to make them even a better contender. They have the chemistry right now.

i agree, for sure. i'd rather the leafs try to pry halak? think st louis would see it as we do, halak doesn't go anywhere. who else could even be had.. ? especially for the package the leafs are capable of putting together right now.

they're not in a position to be parting with high draft picks, and youngsters. not at all.

we're limited to what kind of goaltender can be had for a macarthur/kulemin + franson.. mid round pick.. maybe a d'amigo type prospect?.. that's the kind of package i see the leafs being able to put together.

is that good enough for a kari lehtonen, halak type? doubtful.

They went out and made deals for veterans and gave them long term deals. Denis Wideman comes to mind. JBO is on a long term deal, as well. Too many Tanguay's and Stepniak like players. 2nd liners at best. Outside of Iginla, they have no first line talent.

we definitely don't have the ammo..

st louis is on the cusp of being a challenger, in my opinion. they'd be foolish to part with their most consistent goaltender. we just don't have anything to offer them to make them better now..

I agree. It may be a different story, at seasons end, when teams need to get down to a lower cap. Leafs should only be trading for youth or futures, this year.

i think we're in good hands with nonis in that regard. i don't see him making any moves that aren't maintaining the future core at this point. no quick fixes.

i think he'd rather tank the season out than ship off our future for luongo.

I think that ship has sailed. After watching the Nucks two weekend games, he's at best average. The game tying goal, against Edmonton, was not a great goal. He didn't have his angle and was too far back in the net. Not interested, what so ever, with Luongo. Can you imagine, if we had traded Bozak and Kadri for this stiff? These two have been our best forwards, so far, this year.

won't disagree with that for a second.

will be interesting to see how the rest of the season pans out. i see more or less a dead heat, and #1 picking more out of need in the end.

i would think if calgary were to pick out of need, it would mckinnon. but maybe that's just from an outside perspective.

I might agree with that too. I was leaning hard toward MacKinnon, but Jones reminds me of a young Pronger. Those are the guys that are dominant defencemen for 20 years and wins championships. Hard to walk away from a talent like that.

whether he's elite or not, it's regardless for the leafs.

the team is not in the position to be trading for goaltender signed long term who's nearing the end of his prime. that's a move for a team who's missing that one piece for a cup run.

if the leafs we're to trade any of those pieces, it would need to be for a goaltender who fits the rebuild. a tukka rask type if you will.

the leafs are better off working with what they have, and trying to package their expendables to land a 26-28 year old goaltender with tons of upside, or trying to acquire a bernier type without losing any big young pieces. in other words, no gardiner/rielly types, but frattin + d'amigo type deals.

to even draft a rockstar young goaltender at this point would be tough. aside from the rare case, any big time drafted young goalie will take a solid 3-5 years of development. we'll be working with a different core by then.

I think the Pronger comparison is off base. The kid can skate, he seems a bit slender right now, but he has a body type that adds muscle, I find it hard to choose a comparable player, just my opinion though.
