I'm not saying he's a bad player or won't develop into a great dman. I know he's young and I know he can hit...just thought there's usually some more dramatic skill that would make a dman such a high draft pick. Has he shown flashes of potential since coming to the league? Is he a leader like Foote was? Some say JvR hasn't lived up to his #2 draft status, but atleast he has shown some flashes of greatness. Ypu can see why he was picked so high.

I think it's safe to say the trade was made by both teams to address an area of need. Toronto getting a power forward, and the Flyers adding a young, physical player to their backend. Time will tell as to which team wins the trade. That determination cannot be made for a few years at least.

It is fair to say that both players have somewhat underachieved to where they were drafted respectively.

Just watched it and looks like hartnell landed one real solid shot maybe two and 2-3 other grazing/helmet shots. Stafford didnt land a single blow.

I'll bet you think strippers like you too. Take off the homer glasses, noone beat anyones ass in that fight.

It's a shame, I definitely consider myself a Carbomb fan (for better and for worse). I don't fault the Flyers at all for walking away from a guy who tried to assault the referees locker room, but as far as agitators go Danny had just a bit of a scoring touch.

Maybe that's why I'm predisposed to like Rinaldo. I really think he can overcome his reputation.

Assault the ref locker room?? What?

Luke Schenn as a 20/21 year old player was a top defenseman for Toronto, including being their top PK defenseman. he has shown the same glimpses of being a top player as a defenseman, that JVR has as a Forward. Even more so, because Schenn showed it for a longer period of time.

Penguins fans must be all pumped up after their start. Road victories in Philly and NY is a hell of a start. Penguins will be very good. Although I'm kind of stating the obvious there.

Yeah, he carried a two game suspension into the next season for it. He went to the refs locker room to argue a call he didn't like. As I recall, Shelley really earned his popcorn money by restraining Carbomb.

I think you should take your homer glasses off, dude.

Hartsy landed a few nice ones in that fight before getting pulled down by Stafford.

I bet you think strippers like you.

People are unfair to him IMO. He really has never done any harm, and his style of play is clearly beneficial to the team. He was one of a few bright spots in that Jersey series.

It usually takes d-men a few years to develop. I'm not saying this is a make or break year for Schenn, but he has to show some steady improvement.

Schenn's draft class is packed with d-men who are studs already. Doughty, Pieterangelo, Bogo, Karlsson, and Carlson off the top of my head.

- PLindbergh31

I think Schenn has been a bit better than Bogo so far...

Strippers do like me. I am charming.

As far as the fight goes are you telling me it was a draw? It was a definate win by Hartnell. I get Sabres fans are happy he stuck up for his teammate but other then that he was a fish out of water.

I hate Philly as much as I hate Al Qaeda, but i will say that losing 2 games is just that losing 2 games no more no less. In the span of the entire 48 game season those games arnt going to mean much. The flyers are going to be in the playoffs and im sure that the pens will end up playing you jerks at some point. I love the fact that we beat you on your opening night, and i know your going to come back with "yeah well we beat you in the playoffs last year". The fun thing is when we beat you in the playoffs we went on to win the Stanley Cup. With that (dinosaur turnover machine slow as frozen mud) Grossman, and (frail elf looking 5 years past his expiration date) Timonen anchoring your blue line you are in worlds of trouble this year. Its not your creepy goalie that is going to lose games for you this year.

All I'm gonna say bout that fight is, only two people can win a fight without throwing a punch; Jesus and Ghandi. Don't know bout you but I didn't see any tunics or thorny crowns down there, did you?

He was the 5th pick in the draft. I didn't follow him until the Flyers picked him up, but it seems to me you would have to show some kind of dramatic ability to be the 5th pick as a defenseman. I know he has good size and is a physical player, but there muxt be more than that? Right now, I don't see much difference between him and Lilja other than youth.
- Dkos

Not much, really, except his supposed leadership qualities.

Luke will never be an offensive force. His game coming out of junior was as pure shut down d-man. The Hockey News described him as a player without a ton of skill but tough physically and a future leader, a Brendan Witt type plus.

I've read all the caveats during his draft year and read all the reviews from TO writers and fans, and to date they all seem valid.

But to be fair, I'll watch him for a while and make my own call. Now that he doesn't have the bright light of a 5th pick shining on him, perhaps he'll settle in and be the "next Adam Foote".

Not sure about that. Bogo put up 30 points in 65 games last year. That's pretty solid. Not saying points is all that matters of course.

I look at it this way, would Winnipeg trade Bogosian for L. Schenn. I think we all know the answer to that question.

Two huge wins to start for sure. But much like how you shouldn't get too down after 2 games, we shouldn't get too high.
