I think Laughton needs to be returned. Obviously good enough to stay but for half a season really stings.

I know its way early but is anyone second guessing not wanting to add Couts and B Schenn in the deal for Webber?

IMO a season is a season. If he is good enough to be here he should be here. I'm not too worried about the "half" a season stuff.

And then instead of thinking that there are holes in the defense, we'd be discussing how shorthanded they are upfront.

some people will never be satisfied. We could win a (frank)ing cup and they would say "Its about damn time.. we have only been waiting since the 70's" or, "We got lucky because there is no way our goalie makes that save this year"

I lean toward that thinking also. I personally feel that 48 games in the NHL can do a lot more for a player then another year in Juniors. But I've also seen it seemingly hurt a player. But I think it helps in more cases then it hurts.

I think it is easier to replace Schenn/Couts then to aquire a legit #1 defensemen. I was originally not wanting to part with the youth but as the saga drug on i was leaning towards going all in on Weber.

Im right there with you. He looked fantastic yesterday.. had some good hits, a few very solid back checks, a great cut back move on Robyn Regehr where he fired a rocket of a wrister just high and wide..

It can for sure. I think in this case the Flyers learned a real good lesson with Couturier and will apply those lessons to Laughton. They are deep enough at forward that they can put him in the role that well help his development.

Here ya go kid, don't let em score when you are on the ice. Worry about scoring goals later.

I don't know if it's easier to replace them both then to acquire a legit #1. But I understand your point. Hard to argue with. Weber is a dominating player. But Nashville has had him for how long, and they've never really come all that close to winning a Cup. Mostly due to their shortcomings upfront. Shows how hard it is to build a Cup team. I look at LA. And I see how much patience Lombardi had with that team. Flyers need to do the same thing. Build through the draft, and supplement with key moves. But there's no doubt that a #1 defenseman is the biggest need by far.

I loved that move. I read that he doesn't have a lot of offense to his game. Didn't look like it there.

Well not only is Weber a # 1 dman, he's pretty much the best dman in the League. There is a difference. I think Holmgren gambled that he could get Weber via the offer sheet, as opposed to paying a hefty price for him.

For the time being at least. I wouldn't close the door on Nashville trading him in the future if they fall upon hard financial times.

Love Weber but if i was picking the best dman for one season i would take Chara. But to sign for a long term contract i would go Weber because of age.

Arent they paying him $20 mill this year? If so that would be a tough pill to swallow for a small market team to eat. I know nothing about contract stipulations or trade rules but can a team trade money along with assets like in some of the other sports? Didnt that happen with Lindross?

It's still early. Of course, consensus of local media and many fans seems to be...

No panic. I just know my team. I know that Flyers aren't known to be patient. Giroux even with obvious rust is the only player who is a money in the bank guarantee. Everyone else is inconsistent. We are putting our hopes into potential right now.

Chara is still a force, but imo Weber has surpassed him at this point. Chara will be 36 in a few months, Weber is 27 and is in his prime seasons right now.

I would put Hartnell, Timonen, and in the playoffs, Briere in that consistent category. Every team that is starting over and building a team is relying on potential.

Besides the fight talk earlier not too many mentions of hartnells play. I thought he won some nice puck battles and played decent. Any thoughts anyone???

They paid Weber $13M last July 1, plus his prorated 1M salary this year. And will owe him another $13M on July 1. Same for the next 3 Seasons.

You can't trade money, but you can pay part of a players salary in a trade.

Have you seen the Rangers play? They have looked even worse than the Flyers at times. I'm sure they're not going to miss the playoffs.

Flyers will get it going. They have too much talent not to win at least one game next week.

I thought he was pretty good against the Pens. Less so against the Sabres.

He played well, but I do hope he's just a bit more careful about the hits he throws. Just a tiny bit.

Third overall pick in the draft or whatever one is just outside an elite player to pick.
