Is he?

You tell me, you brought it up. What is Laviolette's system, or Murray's?

Not interested in discussing Richards and Carter. I'll just add that I thought you were dead wrong about them, and still are. And I'll have nothing further to say on them. that's in the past.

Very rarely do I write off a player before he plays a game for the Flyers that was obtained in a trade. About the only time I remember doing so was when the Flyers traded a 1st round pick for Eminger. I thought it was a bad deal and he was not a good player.

You're ignoring the circumstances that have changed since then. Do you think that if Pronger didn't get hurt, that the Flyers would have signed Foster? And that if Pronger didn't get hurt, Lilja would still be on the team as a part time 6/7 defenseman. The Flyers felt they needed a PP point man. Lilja is still a capable veteran depth defenseman.

of course you have nothing to add and it's "in the past" because the last time we discussed that in depth, we both know what happened. i was wrong holding on to hope that we would keep carter and wanting more for him (though i never held carter in quite the esteem you did), but with richards, i was obviously right. we pushed the C on him, he got the big $$ and he didn't handle it well on or off of the ice. the flyers played a role by enabling some issues to fester and eventually felt compelled to ship him out. giroux's emergence clearly played a role. get over it.

lilja was signed to replace o'donnell and compete for a #6 slot despite your denials and if he is not good enuf to survive as a #7 or 8 regardless of mix, 2 yrs for a +35 deal was prob a mistake...not a huge deal, but a mistake nonetheless...esp so early in the UFA process...it's all of those elements of the deal, along w/ the plyr, that i didn't get.

Flyers would have to trade someone. They don't have a contract spot available currently.

Just a minor problem if they really want to obtain him.

You got a chinese fire drill and then a pong match. Schenn and Cooter right now are somewhere in between

We discussed this before, and I guess we'll cover it again. Lilja was not signed to be an every game player. He was signed to be a part time veteran defenseman. He was not signed to be a direct replacement of O'Donnell.
And if you want to ignore what has happened since then such as the Pronger injury, and pretend it had zero to do with the moves that have happened since, knock yourself out.

Any other old moves you want to discuss? How about the Gagne deal?

Schenn sucks.

No he doesn't.

Well then he is doing a fine job at filling Matt Carle's whipping boy shoes.

Couterier's goal was scored with 6 men on the ice that directly affected the play. Wasn't the first time they got away with 6 men on the ice.

Wow, you made me have to check the feed to realize you were wrong, you're almost as good a faker as Miller.

I dont think Miller was faking, but instead trying to back up to prevent the puck from going into the net... its was awkward, but I dont think he even thought about it.

If that meathead milbury is off the kill bryzgalov trip, that oughta tell people he played good. And milbury would love to have a big contract goalie to eviscerate.

Agreed, Bryz was making saves that he did not have any business making keeping Philly in it despite their inability to stop guys taking point blank shots on their net. It's a little sad that people seem to be just waiting for him to fail. He's been good, the rest of the team D (specifically PK) has not, and I'm not just talking about Defensemen.

No question about it, in my mind. He made some quality saves over the weekend. Not one goal that I would consider weak.

Can anyone explain to me how it's a good thing to have Terry Murray in the AHL coaching a totally different system than Lava in the NHL? Is this overblown? Does this make no sense to anyone else?
- Just5

I've actually noticed one thing, the center for the Flyers, in most cases, is staying higher up in the slot on the initial dump/retrieval phase of entry to the zone. A mild adjustment, but important adjustment from last year when you had all 3 guys barreling into the zone only to allow the other team through the neutral zone with ease if they made a good breakout or the goaltender could handle the puck.

Not necessarily. I think he gets credit when he plays well, and criticized when he doesn't. He's played well the first two games, team has hung him out to dry on the majority of goals he has allowed.

I think fans are just looking for him to cut down on soft goals and play with some consistency. I do not think that is unfair to ask.

There was about three people dogging him already. A bad game and that will multiply substantially. I'm not saying in particular will be leading the mob either.
