I didn't read the blog yet due to lack of time but I will sum up how I felt about both games quickly. The Flyers seem to show up late and manage to work harder as the game goes on. Not always smarter but harder. Bryz was easily our best player. I had very little expectations of the D but I felt they help up well considering. I am however disappointed with the offense. I'm just not seeing a real threat out there. let's face it the Flyers are not as deep as a team as they have been in years past. Read was being muscled off the pick pretty easily and as hard a worker as Simmonds is, he doesn't posses the skills Schenn and Couturier may someday. if we were really that deep a team, Laughton wouldn't be here at all.
Luke Schenn as a 20/21 year old player was a top defenseman for Toronto, including being their top PK defenseman. he has shown the same glimpses of being a top player as a defenseman, that JVR has as a Forward. Even more so, because Schenn showed it for a longer period of time. - MJL
Yea but he isnt scoring goals or making fancy dippsy-doodles. Play want flash. I mentioned something last week.. Most players do not come into the NHL as bonefide stars.. it can take years from them to even be anything near that...

You have about 5 potential 20 goal scoters in a full season. They just aren't clicking right now.

I don't think it's true that if we were really a deep team, Laughton wouldn't be here. First round picks are highly talented players. The Flyers in the first two games did not bring nearly enough offensive pressure. And certainly not what they're capable of. And most of the young players have started out slow. And they're also missing Briere. That and the PK are the main issues right now. The Flyers have plenty of offensive depth. We have to give it some time.
I hate Philly as much as I hate Al Qaeda, but i will say that losing 2 games is just that losing 2 games no more no less. In the span of the entire 48 game season those games arnt going to mean much. The flyers are going to be in the playoffs and im sure that the pens will end up playing you jerks at some point. I love the fact that we beat you on your opening night,and i know your going to come back with "yeah well we beat you in the playoffs last year". The fun thing is when we beat you in the playoffs we went on to win the Stanley Cup. With that (dinosaur turnover machine slow as frozen mud) Grossman,and (frail elf looking 5 years past his expiration date) Timonen anchoring your blue line you are in worlds of trouble this year. Its not your creepy goalie that is going to lose games for you this year. - nbartley9

Well, the refs made up for it by incorrectly waiving off two goals. I forgot how much fun Buffalo trolls are because we haven't heard from them in 2 years since we beat them out of the 2011 playoffs and swept the season series last year..

There were only 5 players plus the goaltender on the ice when the goal was scored.
Do you know how rare it is for a defenseman that young to excel at positional play and reading and anticipating plays at the NHL level at that age? You look and see how he played as a young player against he peers. There is a learning curve for all young defenseman. And it happens over time. Luke Schenn was drafted for his physical skills and intangibles. His development will come over time. Flyers are getting him at the right time. He isn't a guarantee. But like I said if he grows and improves in some areas, the Flyers will have a very good NHL shutdown defenseman. If he doesn't, then he'll be an average players at best. If he doesn't correct these things within 10-15 games, then I will start to become worried. The aspect I'll be focusing on closely is his hockey mind, does he have it or does he lack it? Two games is not enough for me to discern either way, but I'm a bit worried.

If you're expecting it to happen within 10-15 games, then you might as well start worrying now. This is a process that is going to take time. Look how long it took Coburn to get to a consistent level. We're likely looking at at least a Season or two for Schenn to reach his potential if he's going to get there. He's 23 years old.

I think communication is key and they had none yesterday. Couturier and Talbot on a line change during the pk was brutal. You might be right, I should give things time for this group to click but this isn't much of a different team then last year. Mr. Snider might see things differently six games in if we don't wake up. Some of the mistakes made yesterday were dumb ones.
