Vanek once again proves he is our best player, and the most underrated forward in the NHL.

I know it's the first game, and that Ruff is conservative with young players, but IMO Grigorenko needs to get some PP time.

Leopold is a defensive liability. I would rather see Brennan get a shot than keep Leo in the starting 6. Time to make a trade Darcy.

I am getting sick of Leino. I wish we had never signed him. It's always something with him. The guy has no heart.

I can't believe how much I want to see Leino out there. Totally changes that 3rd line
- keptupl8

I agree, I just feel like he is going to have a bounce back year, he is way better than what he was last year.

I know it's only one game but I really love the element Ott brings to this team, I think he is such a value of a player only makes 2.9 and the guy gives his all every shift. He can score, penalty kill,he hits, wins faceoffs, can play the pp too just love that trade!

My concern is Grigorenko.

25 with Ott and Leino should be a tenacious line with offensive upside. Change Leino for Hecht and that line looks more like a defensive line. Grigorenko playing defense doesn't interest me. He needs to learn to be defensively responsible, but we need him to put the puck in the net.

Yeah I don't mind Hecht as a 4th line center and killing penalties I just hope we don't overuse him and I agree I like the offensive upside of 9-25-23

I wont be surprised if he is sent back to juniors. He played well, but unless he is doing something special I dont see him staying.

Loved what Staff did today that goes a long ways on a team. Ott is literally a wrecking ball with good hands love his tenacity. 26-19-29 what can you say they were all awesome today.
- sabresfandan

I think what Staff did is a reflection on what Ott brings to the team. He is "C" material and seems like the type of guy who will hold guys in the room accountable. Just my take, I don't know anything but salvage.

Agreed Lamont I think Ott brings so much to this team and the players feed off that. I respect Staff standing up and fighting a tougher guy like Hartnell that really does go a long ways.

Ott created chances on every shift, he showed an obvious hustle out there and also showed that he is very versatile player. Myers need to shake off any rust quickly and show everyone that he deserves that 10 million dollar bonus. Dont get me wrong i think myers is a good player but i really do question his ceiling. Grigorenko made a couple solid passes other than that did not look out of place. Vanek is still out to prove that he is "the man". Hodgson looked quick on his feet and looked promising with van and pomm. Our defence scares me alittle but it is only one game lets hope that improves.

Hodgson looked sooo much better than last season. Stronger on the wall. Bulkier with less weight on his face. Much faster skater too. I was impressed for sure.

that game could have went the other way. the flyers got boned out of 1 def goal and 1 maybe. im glad we got the calls, so far this season we are +2 with the refs. by end of the season it will even it self out. grig's had a couple of nice passes but lindy protected him with his ice time and use. the real plus is that he didnt look out of place.

When Leino get in the third line and Hecht slides down to the 4th line.. They will both be better..

I mean lets face it there is alot of pressure on him this year. He has been given the opportunity to play on the top line and he needs to show that he can handle the pressure. They even gave him time on the pk despite the fact that his defence was a weak part of his game last season.

I don't think so, Hodgson goal was 5 on 5, I believe.

I think Cody's was 4 on 4. But could be mistaken.

He had 5 hits tonight to go with his goal. He's skilled enough to take a regular shift and make life miserable for the other teams skill guys/superstars. It's not like he's some 4th line plug that will always be playing against the other teams 4th line. The intangibles that he brings have been sorely lacking on this team for a very long time. Although it was only one game, it's clear that his grit was infectious and some of the other guys looked tougher out there today.

Positives:
Ehrhoff and Sulzer were the lockdown pair.
Stafford sticking up for Ennis against that ginger pansy.
Vanek. Hodgson. Pominville.
Ott. Hecht. Marcus going after Schenn early.

Negatives:
57 has to be way better. He was a train wreck until the third.
Leopold and Regehr look 90 years old. Not combined. Each.
No 4th line. In a 48 game season, going to need some minutes there.

- PassionBucket16

Ehrhoff made bonehead plays today. Was horrible in his end and was not seen on the PK. 57 was a train wreck offensivly but d wise he played fine.

I agree I think Ott's offensive skills are extremely underrated and overlooked by a lot of people.

Oak Hill is making it's debut in Tiger Woods golf this year, pretty cool.
