i thought ref was in poor position to call the play dead on 2nd disallowed goal...he was in corner and could only guess Miller had it...as the deep ref he needed to be closer to the net...
- busher

So be it, but he wasnt so he made the best call he could given the situation.

We can play the coulda woulda shoulda game all day, bottom line is flyers are 0-2 and sabres won, and looked decent in that win.

if you think Bryz has looked average then you clearly have not watched the games..
Please tell me what goal he should have stopped today? Maybe he should have stopped the Neal shot yesterday , maybe but when a 40 goal scorer rips a shot from the high slot sometimes they are going to beat you..

Vaneks goal = great move
2 other goals = deflection
4 goal = first save and no d or forward clearing the puck...

Bryz has been above average or both the Pens and Sabers would have won by 2-3 more goals.

- opeth_pa

His rebound control was horrible last night same as today looks like the same bryzgalov as last yr to me but like I said you will make the playoffs with the fowards you have not to many teams in the east have the depth you guys have

Good game by the sabres , full credit for the win. Maybe now garth can stop going down on grigorenko, and focus on the guys who actually make this team tick. In a few years he can get back on grigos pole

Hard to have a coming out party when you're playing with Hecht and Kaleta for the majority of your shifts. Not to mention he barely logged 10 minutes.

He looked good out there. Will look better when he gets regular shifts with Leino on his line. He should be on the PP too.

We will just agree to disagree.. Bryz and Giroux have been the only positives over the past 2 games.

Anyway, good win Sabers see you next time!

without a doubt. The blind pass to Ott he had was just a little tid bit of what this kid can do and when he has Leino opening up play along the wall and he can find the holes in the slot he'll get going plenty.

I thought Hodgson was best player on the ice tonight . His skating has improved 100% . Thank you Gary Roberts .
- Maximum Signal

At the end of the day, Vanek was the best player. But he had flashes there where he looked awful defensively. None of our players played a complete game start to finish.

And I did not see that much of an improvement in Hodgson's skating. He still looked slow with a short, choppy stride. He got caught from behind multiple times throughout the game due to this. Cant believe he didnt come up with a better scoring chance when he got sprung on that mini breakaway.

'Cause Philly wasn't rusty either.

Sabres fans, if it wasn't for you my left handed cigarettes wouldn't make me laugh as much.

yep, but he has to know in a scramble he has to be closer to the net...just saying he blew it in a fairly basic situation...

Could also make the same argument for the Flyers being rusty and tired after an emotional game against the Pens.

On paper the Flyers do have great offensive depth but paper only goes so far. I think that it takes 10 games before you really know whats going on when you have no camp.

of course 10 games in a 48 game season can really screw you.

- opeth_pa

Flyers def had a tough 24hrs to start the year no doubt, I think that 2 games 18hrs a part is brutal. I just think the Sabres played better. We had more shots, scoring chances etc. That's with us being rusty

Great game by the Buffalo Referees!

1 goal disallowed...goal was good.

1 goal allowed...should of been disallowed. Rule states a player can not push a goaltenders equipment to score a goal, plus a hockey stop is still a kick.

- Glak18

The first disallowed goal was a 50-50 call. I feel like goalie obstruction should get called more often. Examples of some that went uncalled -- Game 1 of playoffs between Vancouver and LA last year, Quick was bumped and if I recall it was Burrows that benefited with a goal. I think it was Mike Knuble who obstructed Tim Thomas and Ward eliminated the Bruins from the playoffs.

I certainly think Fedotenko bumping Miller helped that goal go in.

And when the ref blew the whistle early, I dont think the puck came across the line completely. I saw no white space between the goal line and puck from the overhead.

There's just not much to say about that one. Probably should have been a flyers goal. But Bryz was not getting a whole lot of help from his team. Also the refs seem to be calling penalties quite a bit more often than normal

They have new rules this year. Haven't read them yet. But I hope the players got the memo.

Some of the things that got called in the game today were questionable and others that probably should have been called weren't. It's no different than any other game, IMO.
