So you claim Burke brings in a bunch of youth and completely ignore the fact that he pissed away Seguin and Hamilton? Just ignore it.

But he pissed it away. On the team's best player, and thus far the best player in the deal.

I really hope they find a way to keep and extend Kessel. The guy is underated and just doesnt get the respect he deserves. Sure he is the one dimensional type, but the guy can skate and score and is barely in his prime.

We havent had a top 6 player stats wise since Sundin. Felt bad for him over the all star game selection BS, and would love nothing more than to see him shove it down the throats of his dejectors.

So hard to call without knowing what these teams are all about. Something tells me its going to be a 5-3 Leafs win. Or a 5-1 Sabres win. It all depends if Miller is starting.

here is what i see:

lupul just got resigned, kessel can see this team has some good players on it. with lupul resigning for 5.25, expect kessel to resign for around 6-6.25
thats just my guess.

WTF? Day of the Leafs' home opener and no new blog? Posts of the 4-digit variety? Mike... your surname is Augello, not Engels.

I cant see Kessel caring much about that. My worry is whether he likes he city, most specifically, can he live with the pressure from the fans and media. The guy was 6th in league scoring and gets no respect.

I don't even think Kessel is that one-dimensional.

Obviously he's not a shut-down forward, but he does backcheck. And obviously he's not a bruiser, but he threw a couple of hits(which didn't make it to the stat sheet- seriously, I think they just do that stat based on reputation) last night, and fought through checking to hold onto the puck. Guy's far more complete than he's given credit for.

PS. Extending Lupul, and the incoming signing of Bozak are going to help retain Kessel.

If they started dumping his linemates for prospects, he'd fly away.

I dont disagree. He does other little things, but not at any level of consistency. He has improved greatly from when he first got here though.

im sure his line-mate(s) make a difference on him wanting to stay just as much as him liking TO.

i think he stays.

added a little note there about the Lupul signing.

Keeping him helps keep Kessel.

That hot to trott comment reminded me of that Kraft Cheese commercial with that devilish figure giving out the free samples.

Love that commercial. Hot like Mexico?

Trading his linemate for a pick looks like the team is going further away from competing. It'd be seen as a step backwards.

I sure hope so. But do we even know if they get along? For all we know they hate each other. Everything is so politcally correct these days, its hard to tell.

precisely.. would have a hard time convincing Kessel to stay if you let every other vet with talent walk.

or worse, trade them out.

Kessel will not stay for another full bore rebuild where he plays with a bunch of hacks and kids.

besides its moot. Lupul is signed and here to stay.. no amount of complaining or whining is going to change that, so, accept it and move on.

you know, i think it may be the wise decision to start Reimer tonight.

think about it...

if u play scrivens tonight, you gotta play him wednesday as well (cant toss reimer in vs PITSBURGH) for his first game...

if you play reims tonight - then you can play either of them on wednesday, and the other on thursday (back to back).

PLUS - buff played last night, so they start their back-up too.

Trading who, Lupul?

I dont think you trade him if you're competing. I also dont think you need to resign him if you're way out of a playoff spot again. Its a fine line, but without hingsight, its hard to tell which is the best direction.

Gentlemen....

rivalry.... restart.

Is the consensus that Lupol's extension was too much money or that it is a good deal to keep him around?
