What you think we could get for him? Something like the Versteeg deal - late 1st at the trade deadline?
- Unholy_Forward

something like that, wasn't that the rumor last year?

this contract might just set him off as well.. now that his future is no longer uncertain all he has to do is play
- Dozzer

Hopefully, I don't see any problems he has caused and from what the other players have said about him, he is well respected in that dressing room, you need these character guys around. Yes the term at five years is probably one year too long but I don't see it as an issue.

No problem, there is a divided feeling here as expected about the signing.

After Montreal scored they had all the momentum. Didn't really matter though because we still won.

i dont think its a bad deal.. its not like he got 6 or 7.. and with grabo making what he makes it had to be at least comparable

Yeah I believe so. The problem I see with that is the depth in the upcoming draft. It may end up being a 2014 1st or something like a 2013 4th and a 2014 2nd.

Burn he was a point per game once in his career. has a massive list of injuries... come on now.

It's obvious this contract extension is at least up for debate and controversial to say the least.

- Cherry--Skoal

Look at the guys that are 5-5.5, how many ppg guys?

5.25 isn't out of whack for him, yes injury/durability is a concern. But it's not out of whack.

right, but my message to carlyle is..

There is a difference between defensive hockey and giving the opposing team possession of the puck. IMO you are asking to lose.

I couldn't belive it, in the final minutes of that third the leafs had numbers to go on a rush, but instead the dumped it to the habs d and the puck went right back in the zone.

That's not defensive hockey, that's stupid hockey

Other than the goal, how many quality scoring chances did Montreal have though? I personally don't remember a game changing save that Scrivens had to make.

In all fairness LM, you cant ignore the injuries though. Big cap hit if he misses chunks of games. Like last year.

1 season in the last 5 where he played 70 games or more. You have to see it as an issue, even if Lupul is a good player with intangibles.

the only potential downfall imo

if he's healthy, good contract, if not.. better hope the injury is long term so his hit can come off the cap

I believe it's the players that made those mistakes. Carlyle has been implementing his coaching style for less then 20 games. Give it time and the team will be better defensively.

Of course but any player can get injured, number 87 (not comparing) is a huge risk but that is the chance you take if you feel that player is important to your franchise.

well obviously

the habs were pushing to tie the game.. and the leafs held strong

exactly the way you want a situation to play out.. anyone expecting the leafs to be a dominant team for 60mins is fooling themselves

get a lead, and fall back and protect it, keep pushing offense and we end up with blown leads.. just like it was under wilson

I don't see that Kofska sticking around all season either really, I mean he just came out of nowhere, he might look good for the first little while because he's been playing the AHL and other guys are still catching up to game speed.
