Babcock would be an excellent choice.. but those first rounders have had so many coaches.. at some point you have to pick one and stick with him although with the CBA the clock is ticking.. becuse they won't be able to continually renew all of them for big contracts not with the cap going down..
- DoctorNHL

Agree, that window will creep up fast on them, happy to see them beat Van tonight, I watched Both nuck games so far, looks like they may need to find a goalie, Huet? Roloson?

2 straight losses to start the season.

both with weak goaltending.

- prock

There will be a goalie controversy for the Cans but it will be about the 10 mil cap hit.. when they don't make the playoffs won't be able to trade either soon...

Yes I will be laughing at Gillis and his acumen... when he goes down with his bad contracts...

They might need to hang on to all the goaltending help they can get.

Apparently, 9.5 million dollars doesn't buy you a lot these days.

- Leeman4Gilmour

I just asked them what they would give us for Reimer or Rynnas, as it looks like they need an upgrade.

On that note, does anybody know if Enroth will get the start tomorrow?

Inquiring fantasy hockey minds want to know...

I think Miller starts again. He was on point today, but who knows. Back ups are going to be so important this season.

Cap is going down Cans.. I would find it hilarious if Carlyle's new system brings this rookie tandem to the playoffs.. or gets better numbers than the Cans best goalie tandem in the league..

Yep, Edler was too expensive, "he would have been the best free agent d this summer blah blah blah"- Mike Gillis. If he doesnt want to sign a reasonable contract than trade his a$$. Van is sinking 2 games in. Lovin It!

LOL that is funny.. but of course they would have to re-sign them to a new contract.. to put them above the back-ups...lol

I am with you couldn't wish it on a nicer set of fans... I hope they never recover.. it seems like with the cap going down.. they will be rebuilding after the Leafs... maybe if they keep this up they can get a first rounder.. and trade him for a good goalie...

Comparing rosters isn't going to get you anywhere. Even if you could somehow prove that the Leafs have more talent now than they did in 1999, it's a broken argument. Relative to the teams today, the Leafs don't have anywhere near the amount of required talent, to compete for a Cup.
- Two_For_Truth

Who is talking about competing for a cup right now...see you are zig-zagging your point.
you said that the current Leafs are "crap"....
Does that mean if you can't compete for the cup right now that you are crap?!
You said the Leafs need to completely rebuild and you didn't need a crystal ball to see 5 years into the future because the Leafs have nothing to build on.
You said that guys like Kessel, Reilly, Gardiner, JVR, etc are not building blocks for a contending team.....that no Cup contending team can have a guy like Kessel playing for it.

You went on to say that that pre-lock out the Leafs were much more talented then the current Leafs.

I think you desperately need a new team to back - I suggest you look at the Penguins or maybe the Hawks.

Was responding to his "pre-lockout" comment when he said they were "close" to making the playoffs....didn't think he was going back nearly a decade (pretty close to last time they actually did make the playoffs)

At this point Im thinking they need a Babcock type coach. That talent needs a better system it looks like to me
- Jimmy_wiener

New coach, new system, new lines, two rookies, a week of training camp after nobody played for a couple weeks...and they won.

Oh woe is us.

Who starts tomorrow night? As in who would you put in, not what you think Carlyle will do.

Scrivens or JR?

- systemtool

Scrivens has outplayed him in training camp, has been very solid in AHL and won opening night (1 of the stars). Why not give him a chance to see if he can be the number 1 and let him play a few.
I don't see any reason to start JR tomorrow unless we really don't care about wins/losses this season.
