50% from 2000 draft already have 50 games, and a few more have over 400 and are still playing.

same goes for everything since.

average will be easily 50% play over 500 games.

Hell 2008 draft already has 13 players with 2 full seasons played. Normal developement after draft would be 1 yr jr, 1 AHL, then start NHL career, and play ever game, to get 2 full seasons since 2008.

It hurts you so much im just going to keep reposting until it washes the idiot off you.

They could always get lucky. They're due.

- Two_For_Truth

With all due respect, Uggie, that is the biggest (frank)ing cop-out of an answer I've ever heard you give.

A guy like you, who carries around so much anger and resentment, is suddenly going to fall back on "they could get lucky"?

You're a guy who has some carefully planned reason as to why we should all piss on every move this team makes. You are a guy who, by his own admission, believes that this team hasn't done anything to earn your respect since the day you were born. You don't waste a single opportunity to point out that you don't owe this team anything.

They haven't done a single thing to earn your loyalty, let alone keep it, as you're happy to point out.

And now you're going to tell me you're following them because you believe in luck? Where does luck fit into your hyper-pessimistic, cynical worldview?

After going on your 1,368th rant about how the Leafs aren't doing things the right way (aka. your way and ONLY your way) and admonishing us for supporting a team that has never done it the right way (again, YOUR way and ONLY your way), you're going to sit here and tell us that you believe in luck?

Not buying it.

Seems like you can read but can't use a calculator.. how many teams again in the 90's 20.. try 28 by the end of the 90's with 23 to start the 90's & 30 by 2000.

- DoctorNHL

In the early 90s it was closer to 20. What you don't seem to be able to comprehend, is that with 20 teams minimum, each with a first round pick, over 10 drafts, there would be 200 first round draft picks, MINIMUM. You stated there were 160 first round picks. Do you follow that? I can look at your numbers, and know for fact, they are wrong, in all of 2 seconds. You've been going on, insisting they are right, for pages now.

Always a pleasure knew it was a typo on his part... but now you are blaming me for his mistakes.. the argument was trading Lupul for draft picks.. how many of those 50% are top line guys???

Because that is what he is suggesting..

Being young doesn't mean jack all unless they have talent to go with it. Unfortunately, they don't have the type of talent filled building blocks you need to win a Cup.

Nonsense is having faith in this team to be truly competitive in the future without some type of miracle.

- Two_For_Truth

So Kessel is not a building block? Reilly, JVR, Gardiner are not building blocks?
Lupul is not a nice piece?

You are obviously a "cup half empty" type of person...Hockey must be such a poopty part of your life (if you are a Leafs fan)....you should move on and cheer someone else.

That's the fun in sport. Sometimes, the unexpected happens. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I don't expect it to happen, like you do, but it doesn't mean it's impossible. Just really damn unlikely. Difference is, I know it's luck that I have to rely on to see them win whereas others will blur the lines between relying on luck with their distorted view of reality and actually believe they will pull it off.

Can we all agree that a discussion on the merits of the draft is pointless without some qualitative analysis?

What I mean by that is that you all seem to be fighting over quantitative facts (the number of games certain players have played, the percentage of players who become NHLers, etc), which I think paint an incomplete picture.

For example, is Brandon Sutter an NHLer? Yes, by the numbers, he has played enough NHL games in his career to be considered one. But is he a "bust"? That's a more complex question.

He was drafted 11th overall and projects as a typical third liner five years removed from his draft in 2007. I think it's fair to guess an accurate projection on his upside at this point.

If I draft a player with the 11th overall pick that I could get off the scrap heap on July 1st as a journeyman free agent, does it really matter that I found an NHLer? Did I really get value for my pick?

quick count I get 252 1st rounders selceted 90-99.

just happened to notice that 14 of 28 selected in 98 played over 500 career games , 12 of 26 in 97, 11 of 26 in 96...

it goes on like that

Sorry if reality seems half empty but the Leafs aren't going anywhere significant any time soon. Hopefully that changes.
