Im thinking Booth. Who knows though. They have a good group on D, but have nothing up front after their core 4. (Burrows, Sedin, Sedin, Kesler).

they're not bad, not great. nothing spectacular, but some pretty solid guys. The problem is, they've got some junk past the first three guys. no room to sign anything better, for the next few years, and their best D prospect would be our fourth best d prospect. No help on the way. It's kind of similar on forward.

I didn't offer a response as I'm intermittenty focussing between here and my thesis. Guess where my attention went then?

Hawks won the cup but then had to blow it up immediately afterwards, hardly seems ideal. Pens, well poop if you could promise me that I'd get Fleury, Malkin and Crosby in successive years then I'd be happy to have a few more years losing. Those players come along rarely, Pens got all of them. Smart drafting seems better than high drafting (Karlsson at 15, Gardiner at 17, anyone picked by the Wings circa 1995...)

I agree about smart drafting but you still need a few Morgan Rielly caliber players if you're doing a full rebuild. The Hawks still have a very good core of Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook and Hossa. Pretty much every team that wins the Cup has some high end players from very early in the draft.

The Canucks are built to win between 2009 and this year, maybe next year still.
If they don't get the job done after next season I would start the fire sale.

Are you serious? Id blow up my own house if the Leafs won the Cup. Just win a (frank)ing cup, damn if you have blow it up. Besides, who did the Hawks really lose when they dismantled that team? None of the core young players. Versteeg is a douche, dont mention him.

Kings drafted Quick, Doughty, Kopitar and Brown. Then traded other young players they drafted to bring in the final pieces.

Ducks drafted Perry, Getzlaf, brought in a college kid Kunitz, used Lupul to trade for Pronger etc.

No. Their window, if there ever was one, is done for. They're set up to be gutted of what little depth they have this coming summer.

I wish the current Leafs roster had at least one young player who was a high NHL draft pick

It seems so simple. The Oilers are doing it right as well. Though they lucked out getting the #1 pick last draft. If Burke wouldn't have traded Kessel and gone about a rebuild the proper way, the Leafs would be in better shape.

They were one of the best teams in the league for the last few years. Seems like a pretty good window.
I'm not sure about how much their roster has changed since last year and two years ago but it can't be that different. Still got the Sedins and Kesler and they've got a lot of depth on D.

I just wish they had an elite prospect in the roster. Or 2. Or 3.

Good deal for Lupul. That's a respectable cap hit.

So what are we hoping for?

Luongo shut-out or Luongo blown out?

Either way is probably enough to fill up my day trolling the Esplen thread tomorrow.

Thanks for the good response. Out of the guys we have, I think that Rielly and Gardiner are gonna be pretty special D men, and that Stuart Percy and Matt Finn (both drafted last year) should be pretty solid top 4 D. For forwards, we're less deep. Biggs should be a good 2/3 winger, Josh Leivo is tearing it up in the O, as is Connor Brown; both could project as 2nd line wingers. For Goal, Garrett Sparks has some potential, but is still very raw. Despite this, I like the idea of giving Scrivens a go as he has better NCAA/AHL numbers than Schneider and is the same age.

depth? Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis, all good, not spectacular D. Past that, Garrison? Ballard? Tanev? You can call it "depth" if you like, I'll just call it "junk".

I'd like to see the reverse of yesterday. Luongo gets shelled and pulled, and Schneider comes in and doesn't do much better.

McCabe is a perfect example of a guy booed out of town when he was still capable of playing hockey at a high level. Hence being Florida's captain.
- Feeling Glucky?

Again, stop trying to weasel your way off topic.

McCabe should have been traded, not resigned. Same with Tucker. Classic example of veterans being resigned after a career year.

Was McCabe as bad as people thought he was? No, he wasn't. But he sure as hell wasn't as good as he was in his career year.

This simple buy low, sell high. Simple.

Down by 15. 10 minutes to go.

I should be turning it off and doing laundry and running out to the store to buy lunch for the kids tomorrow, but the couch won't let me.

I watched the game and I like the direction this team is heading...
- Flyfreaky

They played the only team in the NHL that might even be worse than they are... and even then I am not sure of that. (oh yeah, forgot Columbus)
