Lupul has shown no consitency. We bought high instead of selling high. Bad move long term. Especially if youre not a playoff team and are still rebuilding.

I believe this team will be able to continue building, with Lupul on this team. Lupul may have gotten a late first round pick, which is easily a larger gamble then paying him 5 million to be an outstanding player/teammate/community contributor.

Hey man, I'm with you on the Lupul thing. Deal just doesn't make a lot of sense right now. Overpay Lupul at the beginning of a rebuild? If you're beginning a rebuild why not trade him for a nice prospect or some draft picks? Seems weird to me.

We may be young, but we dont have that elite talent. Nothing suggests, at this point in time, that the team should be satisfied with what we have to the point that signing Lupul long term is a better idea than selling high and adding more to what we have.

They are premier because they have been drafting well. Cant argue that about Philly.

That's great for the Flyers. But what about teams that actually win the Cup? You know, like Pittsburgh and Chicago. How did they become so good? Oh right, the draft.

But yeah, overpaying for guys like Lupul is a great way to rebuild.

you cant just have all youth on a team... you need some veteran presence... and conisdering the amount of adversity hes had to go through with said injuries in his career hes probably a decent role model and the fact that he is still effective as a player and has chemistry with our best offensive forward (probably will help resign kessel knowing lupul is here to stay) its a good investment... the good way outweighs the risks in this case... komi will be gone, lombo is gone, connolly will be gone, and im guessing someone like mac will be moved out as well because our youth that we already have will be taking their spots... you cant just have picks and prospects... the islanders and thrashers/jets have been getting high picks forever as well and they have not improved for years

Nobody said it should be all youth. Add veterans. Not for 5 years with an injury history and a lot money though.

I wouldnt even mind them having signed Lupul if they waited to see if the playoffs were a legit possibility this season. At least wait and see where the team you have now sits. If by Aprils trade deadline you're way out of the playoffs, sell him off and continue rebuilding. If you can by some miracle lure a top end player as a UFA, you're better having gotten assets in a Lupul trade and still having a very good player. If not getting a premier UFA, have patience. Keep building. Give young kids some top playing time.

As for teams like the Islanders you mentioned? They arent the same as big market teams rebuilding. Teams like NYI have been cursed as much by an internal team budget than anything else. Bigger market teams that rebuild rarely fail.
