None of this would really be much of an issue if he had any form of consistency at any point in his career. Love the guy, cant say enough how hes one of my favourite players, but that term has me really nervous. Can he stay be healthy and be this productive at 32, 33, 34, 35? Im not so sure.

He'll be 34 at the end of the contract, not 35. It's not like he's signed till 50, like Luongo.

either i quoted the wrong post, or you didn't see which one i quoted

I was responding to this:

somebody else responded to the McCabe discussion with the same argument I would have put forward: he had one bad season with us. That's it.

- Feeling Glucky?

Huh? I have no idea why you are confused...

... I always believed Sundin was an underrated player and consistently defended him. He was completely wasted in Toronto.
- Aetherial

The fact that you had to defend him, and that he was underrated proves my point.
- Glucky

Not even remotely close.
Are you going to suggest that McCabe Tucker or Lupul are comparable to Sundin?
I have made my point clear. You disagree. Fine. I really don't care enough to argue.
We will see how he does.

- Aetherial

There is nothing confusing about that exchange. Nowhere in that exchange is my quote re: Malkin et al even remotely valid.

You need talent.

Lupul has talent.

A lot of Leafs don't have talent.

The Leafs lack talent.

The Leafs have lacked talent for too long.

We need talent.

Lupul has talent.

So retaining talent just seems like the right thing to do.

Seriously - we need more talent.

You need talent

Luongo has talent

We need Talent

The Leafs lack a #1 goalie with talent

Aquiring talent just seems like the right thing to do.

Seriously - we need more talent.

Goes both ways Wedgie. Its the conditions and the contract that comes with the talent thats just as important as the talent itself.

It is also full of people, apparently, who have a differing opinion.
- Aetherial

That's what absolutely sucks about this site.

Those people should be banned.

On a related note, if you head over to the Flyers thread, MJL is defending Luke Schenn. Apparently us Leafs fans had it all wrong: Schenn is a fast skater.

And the sad thing is that he is exactly what we need right now
- lumlums

Oh man I can't count the number of times I really wish we had a player like Sundin now.

He was the greatest Leaf ever and I think one of the very best players of his generation. If he had a sidekick, like ALL the other big stars of that era had, he would have had an amazing career, instead of just a great one.

I can understand if he wants to defend Schenn, whatever, but to suggest he is a fast skater?

lumlums said we'd complain even if we had Malkin/Datsyuk

you asked when we've had one of those players

I responded with Sundin.

It's possible I've just confused myself.

moving on.

You know what goes both ways?

Your mother.

Small flaw in your theory: we would have to give up talent to get Luongo's talent. I'm happy to debate whether or not it would be a net gain or loss in talent, but you need to at least acknowledge that it is not the same thing.

Signing Lupul to an extension did not cost the Leafs any talent.

Luongo has also shown he can be healthy and the best in the game. Its not like Lupul can say the same.

I have no doubt that the Lupol signing is great. The guy is a late bloomer who his entire career has battled injuries & when he was healthy he never found the right chemistry playing with any of his previous teams. He's found a that elusive chemistry in TO playing along side Kessel. I think he's made Kessel a better player. I remember how lost Kessel use to seem b4 Lupol arrived. Kessel's game changed for the better when Lupol played with him.

In a way it did. In the way of not cashing in if we miss the playoffs this year, and swap him at the deadline.

I'd rather keep the guy who had two more points than Ovi last year, in 12 less games.

Thats only some of the reason why Im a huge fan of Lupul. I have issue with the timing and term of the contract, and where the team will be down the road. Not the player.

Why ignore the contract of Lupul and not Luongo? Its a package deal, in concert with the state of the team.

So Lupul > Ovi....I didnt expect this sudden turn of events.

Sundin playing with Kessel, Sundin would have a chance for 100 points & Kessel would hit no less than 40.

Okay. So lets ignore 30-34 for a guy with no consitency because we dont care about 35. Problem solved.
