This is funny, how many wingers, scratch that, how many first line wingers had over 65 points last year and how much did they make. Damned if you, damned if you don't in Leafland. Your first priority to your season ticket holders, fans & Owners is to win, not tank, you guys might not like that but that is the way it is, stop whining, sheesh.

Yup, one of the few. We could have Datsyuk, Malkin and Crosby and some people would complain that they're too soft, and why don't we have a tougher guy like Dustin Brown instead...
- lumlums

That's an interesting comment.

When have the Leafs had a Crosby, Malkin or Datsyuk? Could this be because they trade away picks and don't sell high, but instead overvalue their own players that aren't winning them anything?

My old soccer coach used to "encourage" use to play dirtier against the wieners like that. "If they're gonna dive and get calls we might as well make it worth it"

Good man. I hope you guys gave him a medal! I fractured my leg and carried on playing in a game before, so the whining poser rat bastards can (frank)ing man up and play.

Better off trading him, getting what you can for him and keep this train headed for 1st overall.
- Two_For_Truth

Ok look coming from a sens fan lupul is a quality hockey player why trade for something they may not materialize I think it's smart move to lock up someone who can points up every year

McCabe is a perfect example of a guy booed out of town when he was still capable of playing hockey at a high level. Hence being Florida's captain.
- Feeling Glucky?

I can't agree.

McCabe was absolutely awful before he was finally traded. He did nothing that justified the contract after the fact either.,

Pittsburgh model, my ass!!!!

Alas terrible ownership (ballard) and poor general managers have tried everything to get the win now route. We finally have a young team that is a few pieces away from making something happen and all of a sudden people are asking us to blow it all up again and start over.

And no, we have not had a guy like Malkin, Crosby etc... but even if we did, I swear that half of the fanbase would still find something to female dog about

Tucker and McCabe are perfect examples of players who capitalized on career years to stay in Toronto when the Leafs should have been rebuilding.

It's sad that needed to be explained to you.

- Two_For_Truth

There was absolutely nothing wrong with McCabe.

He told JFJ flat-out that he couldn't sign a contract until his wife's health issues were sorted out. JFJ panicked and kept upping his offer.

Not McCabe's fault JFJ landed at $5.75 milly cap hit. Too bad idiot fans didn't realize this, and booed him out of town. We got Mike Van Injured in return, and all McCabe did was go on to be named captain of the Panthers.

Leafs should have kept him.

Hell, it's McCabe's fault Tucker got the big contract. Teams focused on McCabe so much, Tucker was wide open on the doorstep of every powerplay. That's why his point totals got elevated.

Did you get drafted into the Uggie Army?

Lupul sucks, but he got 2 more points than Ovi in 12 less games, playing with Bozak.

Self-loathing is not an attractive quality.

um, he got 57 pts 1st year of the contract, and 2 seasons of 40 pts with Panthers.
23 pts in 54gms 07-08 was worste season during that contract aside from last year in the league.

not exactly absurd for a $5.75M cap hit

Reactions if the Leafs drafted first this year...

McKinnon- "why'd we draft a small soft forward? Isn't Kessel enough?"
Barkov- "why'd we draft a euro, didn't we learn from Sundin?"
Monahan- "toughness over skill, COULDA HAD MCKINNON!"

and Tuckers "Big Contract" was a whopping $3M a year... now, should not have been 4 yrs, but the money was fine.

It has everything to do with the direction of the team and whether or not it was smart for a team in Torontos position to be signing 5 year deals to a guy thats almost 30 with a long history of being injured.
- systemtool

I think the signing of Lupol is a great move/ In order to succeed you need a balance of good veterans & good young players.

Sundin.

Guy couldn't buy love in this city because we traded Clarke for him. Possibly the best player the Leafs ever had, and this city wouldn't stop lobbing poop at him.

You need talent.

Lupul has talent.

A lot of Leafs don't have talent.

The Leafs lack talent.

The Leafs have lacked talent for too long.

We need talent.

Lupul has talent.

So retaining talent just seems like the right thing to do.

Seriously - we need more talent.

yeah, uh, no cups in 45+ years and no playoffs in like 8 years will do that to a fanbase.
