Im more comfortable dealing with that than missing the playoffs, keeping Lupul and finishing in 10th.
- systemtool

It's not in the cards right now anyway, Nonis is on a 3 year contract and in no position to be dealing contributing roster players for draft picks or a marginal prospect. There's no way he's doing a tear down.

Then we're not stuck with a 5 year, 5 million plus contract?

well, if he's hurt, we dodge that bullet too

Lost in this endless debate is that drafting well and high leads to trades for needs

Uggie's answer: you have to draft the best guy.

You make sure the guy you draft is a future HHOF.

Oh, by the way, the way to win 6/49 is to pick the six correct numbers.

It has everything to do with the direction of the team and whether or not it was smart for a team in Torontos position to be signing 5 year deals to a guy thats almost 30 with a long history of being injured.
- systemtool

So if they make the playoffs signing is OK, if they miss they shouldn't have signed and let him walk?

Yes.

The one and only game hes ever had to ride the bench. With his one coach Wilson Eakins Carlyle the third.

One game. Ever.

- systemtool

Come on, that's just ridiculous. First game of tye year, and you're comparing what was done under different coaches while Kadri was 19 or 20 years old.

I swear, some Leaf fans are schitzophrenic. If they bring up prospects and play them 20 minutes a night at 18 or 19, they scream that they're ruining them. They take their time with Kadri, and now you're screaming he isn't getting enough ice time. And you're whinging and moaning that he should have gotten 3 or 5 more minutes in game 1 than he got.

Reread the post. Thats what I said. 1 in the last 5.

Both injuries are injuries that are reoccuring
. On not ones you just brush off as in the past, and risk a 5 year commitment on. We're talking athletes here, not pencil pushers.

- systemtool

you mean ones that are likely to re-occur? Cause so far he's never had the same injury twice. (if we assume separate stints in 07/08 season were actually the same concussion all along, which it probably was.)

Its not okay for 5 years, but it at least justifiable with where the team is headed. As in, able to compete now.

Yup. If they never draft Schenn they never get Richards and they never get their 2nd line shutdown center Also Voynov's amazing development let them loose that steaming pile of poop Jack Mother(frank)ing Minus Johnson

What's so funny, Kesler being a top-liner or Staal being better than Lupul?

Thats because hes always been hurt and has played enough.

So what are you saying? That he'll never be injured again?

Why would Vancouver trade their first string goalie?

No I was just asking if that was what you meant - that the shoulder and concussion are injuries that are likely to re-occur. Which is true.

For this season live or die by what you have now and try to figure out what Reimer and Scrivens are... If the team fails it will be due to goaltending then see about Luongo or someone else.

The Leafs have too many good but not great pieces to do some half assed rebuild which is what transpires by trading Lupul.

I think Nonis would happily trade for Luongo if he could get him for Bozak and Franson...

Which is why you dont commit to Lupul for 5 years right off the bat.

ya saw that... and if he signs for 3rd line money I'm fine with that. He's still desireable at $2.75M or something.

Im not naming names. You are.

My point is to keep cap flexibility until proven winners are worth spending it on.

Again, I love Lupul. But its too long and too much for an injury prone player with only 1 solid season under his belt.

- systemtool

Agreed. I don't like the term.
I also don't like that it is a disincentive now.
