So you claim Burke brings in a bunch of youth and completely ignore the fact that he pissed away Seguin and Hamilton? Just ignore it. |

If he does what the coaches are asking he will.... lets not overreact after one game. - burn
He is never going to be who they want him to be. If this is going to happen every time he plays the only way he knows how to play, whats going to change? It sure isnt going to be him. Its not an over reacting, its stating the obvious. Lets take off the blue blockers.

With unbalanced odds of winning the lottery.
But if anything, it only improves the theory that the Leafs should be trading guys for 1st round picks. If the team they get the pick from misses the playoffs, the Leafs increase their odds of winning the lottery. - Two_For_Truth
And if they had guys who weren't worth keeping around long term, they should do that.
a guy like MacArthur- probably better to move than to keep. He's in a spot we can already fill.
Who on the team fills in for Lupul's position?
Creating a hole to fill another gets you no where. Remember when we had an elite center with no wingers? How'd that work? |

In>out.
I like how you glorify guys that we traded while denigrating the guys we have. Always awesome to see. |

The same way having good wingers with no elite center is working. poopty.
Why? Because we wont build this team properly. |

They don't need an immediate replacement for Lupul. The assets they get back for him, if done properly, should take care of that in the long run.
Creating a hole? Losing Lupul isn't a big deal. They aren't going anywhere with him anyways. All you want to do is delay the inevitable and jump for joy in 8th place. |

Trade away talent you know you have for talent you might be able to get.
They see Lupul in their long term plans, that's their professional opinion of him- a guy that brings enough to the team to be included in the long term plans. Whether you agree with that assessment or not is a different issue. But once you feel a guy falls into that category, you shouldn't trade him for anything less than a sure thing. - Feeling Glucky?
Professionals should be aware of his injury issues, but they ignored it. Im now worried that these professionals are not the droids we're looking for. |

I know. Full agreement.
But trading a guy we know we have for a guy who if we got might be good isn't the way to go either.
Trade guys that are redundant for us. Don't trade away our picks. Be patient.... See how our guys can do themselves before panicing and trading away all the vets for more youth. |

And yet how did it all start? It started with Burke trying to cut the corner by trading youth for the immediate answer for the playoffs. You always leave that out don't you? Why? Doesn't fit your argument that Burke wasn't like JFJ by trying to make the playoffs and ignoring the future. It was only after he made this massive error did he change a little. But it doesn't make up for it. |

How do you know they ignored it?
Maybe they felt 1 big injury and the freak infection that came with it wasn't all that likely to repeat itself? |

Glucky, you're not understanding my point. Its that they shouldnt have signed Lupul until they knew they were in a position to realisticly make the playoffs. They have until April to trade him. Why not wait and see if you're a playoff team or not before commitingto an injury prone player for 5 years? Thats my point.
Keeping our picks is just important as adding to them. Especially when you're not a team that has the best of luck with draft/development. |

Clearly ignored. Not enough time spent healthy and playing has passed to be satisfied that a guy with only one 70 game season in the last 5 is good enough to leave injuries behind for the next 5 years. |

What if they waited till April and he rips it up and now is asking for way more???? Waiting does come with it's own risks. |
