It's definitely a gamble. I guess they didn't want to wait for Getz or Perry to maybe become UFA and run the risk of not having a chair when the music stopped, if you know what I mean - xxCHRISTOFIRExx
Yup. But signing Lupul now and not waiting was pointless. They might be better off seeing what they could have gotten in a trade. If a team over pays, hello proper rebuild. People will assume, like the hat avatar guy just did, that just because they get traded as rentals they will sign there.
These guys are either resigning in Anahiem or hitting the FA market. They have come this far and they would be doing an injustice to themselves if they didnt wait a few months when they can have teams in a bidding war for their services, while picking where they want to play. |

Really? I would not be flattered to think that people talk about me in the way they talk about you, i.e. in that having to interact with you is roughly as pleasurable as a colonoscopy, etc.

1. I didnt whine. I passed on information of what Dreger was saying with a splash of my thoughts on it. Did it hurt you so much you're taking it this personal?
2. Are you in yet?
They should be looking to upgrade Bozak. We need a true #1 center, something Bozak will never be. Why keep spinning tires? We dont need Bozak and Grabs, both 2nd line centers at best. - systemtool
I agree that we need to upgrade but you can't let potential assets walk for nothing. I know Bozak isn't all that great but you have to get a return on him, whatever that may be. So, if we dont currently have a replacement for him and his contract is expiring we have to resign, no?
And he's on a goal per game pace so far this season |

You've got a point. I really take what people say on hockeybuzz to heart. You guys actually hurt my feelings. Please don't gang up on me anymore. I come here to build solid friendships. |

but they also want to see that the team is dedicated to their best players and that they want them around for a long while, signing Lupol doesn't hurt |

You are right, just because they get traded there is no guarantee they sign with the team that traded for them, but from what I can remember, when a team coughs up a ton in a trade they throw everything they can at getting that guy re-signed and more often than not they end up signing. |

Ya you can trade, but if we trade by the deadline and Getz doesnt make it to UFA we get caught with nothing. Or at least scrambling for a plan C |

Sorry for the mistake. Please forgive me?
While you're at it maybe you could try forgive Nonis for overpaying Lupul. - woopstash
over the last two years sidney crosby earned 16.5million to play 63 games and you're giving us poop?
and yes, this point would have far more weight if he didnt score 103 points in those 63 games
lol |

I've got no problem with Crosby's $8.7 million cap hit. Slightly worried about Malkin wanting to break the bank in a couple years though. |

So Nonis DID overpay for Lupul then?
I agree with what the other guy was saying about seeing what you could get for him via trade. Paying him over $5 million a year for the next 5 years sends the message that he is one of the key guys you're going to build around. |

well he cant expect to earn more than crosby if he wants to stay with the pens.
how would you feel about trading him to a certain team in desperate need of a centre? we got all these burkie dogs leftover we could throw in to sweeten the deal |

i dont want to get into it again but i think the whole injury thing when it comes to lupul is a tad over stated
yes he missed alot of time, but only due to two injuries.. one of which he developed an infection that nearly ended his career
the only real concern is the point TFT brought up.. which is back injuries do tend to develop chronic issues.. hopefully lupul is nearing the end of this deal before that rears its ugly head |

I have a feeling he'll stick around and make somewhere around 9 or 9.5 million a year. It is kinda weird to have someone on the team making more than Crosby but if anyone in the league deserves it it's Malkin. Probably sounds bias, but I think they are the two best players in the league. |

he's a really good player, if he didn't get injured he would have been in the top 10 last year. what the hell else do the leafs have?
Kessel and Gardner pretty thin after that |

Would of liked to see what they could have got for him in a trade. Likely could have fetched a first round pick or a good prospect. |

i dont necessarily think so.. because then you would have to say grabovski is a key guy
i love grabo, dont get me wrong, but i dont think ownership or management has given him any reason to believe he is going to be a long term building block and they are paying him a quarter of a million more
there was no way the leafs could give grabo 5.5 last year and turn around and say to lupul "our offer is 4 million". |
