18 year old center Scott Laughton makes the Flyers starting lineup. Giroux, B. Schenn, Couturier & Laughton. Stacked down the middle!!! Let's hope Bryz poops the bed and they panic.

You probably know my old man. He runs a lot of jams in the valley. Used to do one at the Waverly all the time.

Victoria, actually.

I was out with the wife at a movie, and when I got home I saw the news and cut her off halfway through an important conversation shouting "they (frank)ing re-signed Edler, Woooo!"

She was none too happy.

It is also possible AV wants his toughness. He was recomended bu the Canucks players who practiced with him at UBC. Maybe we might be surprised.
- VANTEL

From watching Vandy in interviews he looks like a real likeable guy.

I think he's been a pretty popular player everywhere he's played.

He's one of those "good guy in the room" types.

Ahem, I already said that...

Well I definitely wasn't going to read every comment before me.

I'll go with Daniel and Raymond then, Raymond with the first.

There you are, everyone was wondering yesterday.

I had heard the same thing, but what about teams that have exercised one buyout this year already(NYR/MON), do they now have to wait until the 2013 off season?

- 1970vintage

2014 you mean. I'm pretty sure it was one in the summer 2013, one in 2014, and the one they use now, the "accelerated" buyout, is the one from 2013.

Are the Canucks at all aware there is a salary Cap next year, and if they do, are they aware its not 400 million?

Serious question. It seems ignored to the point I wonder if its actually something nobody is aware of.

I await your 1967's and sexual oriented insults as well as apologies for your teams cap mismanagment.

Yes, I know, the two buy outs will solve all the problems, except for the part where I know they wont.

- systemtool

I know. I wish my team would follow the wonderful cap management system the Leafs employ. It's worked out sooooo well for them.

You follow a poop team. Insulting other team's management system is laughable.

Then again, laughable comments from you is becoming the norm.

Piss off troll.

Vandermeer could have been claimed if he was sent down via waivers though, Schroeder couldn't.
- LeftCoaster

Again, Barker would have been the one to send down. Cannauton, Sauve and Joslin can be the 9/10/11 for (frank) sakes. Everyone forgot about Alberts. Why cant he be the #8/9 so we can give our young players a shot? This is all BS...

I don't buy it sorry. Vandermeer was in January without a contract. Do you really believe that we should hold our centre prospect back over #9 depth on D so we dont lose these rejects to waivers when we are missing our 2nd and 3rd line C's?

There's talk about Schroeder being called up. If Gillis/AV's choice is any indication, we wont see Schroeder called up if we cant score because they wont want to lose a 8/9 D to waivers?.... it's injuries or bust and even then, we've always seen AV grab the wrong fit for the hole off the farm team...

Instead of addressing the scoring problem, AV and assistant GM Gillis just come right out and says we are not going to try and score much this season just like at the trade deadline when they said the same things about the upcoming playoffs...

I believe under the new CBA you have two buyouts which can be used as the teams see fit, one in the 2013 off season and one in the 2014 off season OR you can use both in the 2013 off season or both in the 2014 off season. As per NHL.com see below.

"The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association on Tuesday agreed on a change in compliance buyout rules, allowing teams to buy out player contracts prior to Saturday.

In the new Collective Bargaining Agreement agreed to recently by the NHL and the NHLPA, clubs were permitted two "compliance" buyouts to take place during the 2013 and/or 2014 offseasons in order to ease the transition to a lower salary cap.

The new agreement allows teams to use one of those compliance buyouts prior to the start of this season. However, the player's full salary for the 2012-13 season still would count against the team's cap.

Players that are bought out will become unrestricted free agents, eligible to sign with any team."

Hey hey easy big fella, I'm not defending the move, just trying to surmise why the move was made. Trust me, I really wanted them to give Schroeder a shot. But you know the score with AV as well as I do.

P.S I'm still recovering from the Schroeder cut He'll be back soon though. They have to give him a look this year. He's not going to develop much playing the in aHL. It's time he learns how things are done in the NHL. I thought they should have given Schroeder one game and Ebbett one and if Ebbett was the better player at least Schroeder gets soem experience and knows what he has to work on.

He sucks. 40ish point player in the AHL does not equate to an NHLer.

The system was holding him back or he'd have 80 points by now.
