They sucked...the forwards were bumping into eachother and turning pucks over, the D was hanging the goalies out to dry and Cory couldnt stop a beachball.... on a side note, the coach and GM have hung the whole team out to dry.

Tomorrow they can warm up on a elite junior team. No excuses...

Gillis keeps reminding us if he waits for the players he thinks Luongo is worth, someone will get desperate. Never the Canucks eh Mike?

You get a much different view when you are there. You don't get to see the detail. The flow didn't seems so bad.

But defensive coverage was suspect. Year after year it's the same. Too many goals from scrums in front of the net. No matter the talent brought in, Bowness seems to find a way of turning defensive zone assignments into musical chairs. Absolute chaos.

Did everyone go to bed? It's 11:30 on a saturday night.
I got about a pound and a half of maryjane I got to work through. I hope someone will be around to chat or I'm going to have to talk to myself all night.

And to be honest, I hate that guy.

So lets completely forgot tonight's game and just talk some possible trades that Gillis should have approached previously...

Schneider for Phil Kessel?

I'm serious... Not going off on one stupid game...I'm talking over the last couple seasons. I'm going on the fact of trading an asset that can net you a bigger return and address the Nucks problem which is secondary scoring and depth.

Schneider has to play at a consistantly high level for more than a few games to have any true trade value. People have said that Schneider hasn't truely proven himself in the NHL yet. Maybe they are right.

Wonder if other GMs feel the same way. If that's the case then you are trading from a postion of weakness.

I totally feel going on with Schneider is a major gamble... Its hard to say that Gillis has had any trade talks for Schneider... but Im just speculating that multiple teams would have listened for a goalie like him with a cap friendly contract and given the Canucks a better return, filled out their team more than Luongos trade return. I think the approach that the Canucks are taking is bad... A team like Toronto would easily take Schneider any day of the week. Trading Hodgson was also inevitable but poorly timed... they should have waited out that season. That was a gamble that failed to me, we don't know how Kassian will turn out.... but Hodgson was ahead of him at the time and I think could have helped them more in the cup run.

The Canucks will be fine having this goalie issue for the whole season, one goalie will back up the other and is capable of it for now. Both goalies should play well but they simply cant afford to trade Lu and have Schneider fail... it will cost Gillis and AV their jobs I think.

Well...

AV is still useless. Admitted to not even addressing the team after the game. This may be a veteran group, but where does AV expect the vocal leadership & direction to come from? Henrik is one of a looong line of Canucks wearing the "C" who's soft spoken & "leads by example"... aka "the Coach's yes man". Kesler isn't in the dressing room. So is Bieksa (one of the worst players on the ice tonight) the one that's supposed to steer this team in the right direction?

Bowness is equally useless. We play a defensive system. We have the most depth of talent on D of any team in the league... Yet it still looks like a perpetual fire drill out there.

Kassian sucks. Sorry... I know a LOT of people are very sensitive about this subject (particularly Boinker - I think...) ... But he. (frank)ing. sucks. Unless someone teaches that kid how to be assertive & RUN SHOW, he's going to be an absolute bust. Tentative at every turn... Has no clue when to stick his nose into something... No instincts... He doesn't even play big... 1 hit in 17 shifts? Brutal.

Ugh... Not much to be excited about. Gillis has a LOT of work to do.

We gave up two firsts and a second (or Seguin, Hamilton and Knight) for him, and watched him hit 30 goals every year while approaching being a PPG player, and you want us to trade him for an unproven goalie? We have two of those! Not to mention that Scrivens was in College at the same time as Schneider, and has better numbers. Scrivens has better AHL numbers (2.17GAA, .925 SV%) albeit in less games. Why would we not at least give him some time to see what he has (especially while the rest of the team is rebuilding) rather than trading our best player for a relatively unproven (though still very promising) player?

I don't think either Vancouver or Toronto would make that Schneider/Kessel trade. It's pointless to discuss, though entertaining...and I can understand why a Canuck fan would consider it.

Someone else mentioned the defensive coverage last night and that was the main problem in my eyes too. Players roaming free for deflections and rebounds wherever they wished. Only one of those 5 goals was on Schneider (the 5th). The Canucks' team D has really never been a huge strength under Vigneault (I watch a lot of Vancouver games) in spite of the fact that the D-men are pretty good individually and there's some excellent defensive forwards (Kesler, Burrows, Hansen) on the team who have been there awhile.

And also a point to consider the Canucks usually don't play as well defensively earlier in the year as they do later...for whatever reason.

Pretty sure no GM in any hockey league in the world would make that trade.
You don't give up a 25yr old perennial 30+ goal scorer who also is starting to average a point per game for an unproven goaltender. Those are the kind of trades that gets a GM fired.

If this was an 82 game season, you might have had a chance of recovering from last night.

But in a 48 game season, the Canucks have dug too deep a hole.

Better to just fold the franchise.

Hopefully Oilers crush the Nuks in the same manor the Ducks did....
That would be one sweet start to this NHL season.
