Why cant Schroeder play forward instead of Vandermeer? Are the bottom six players Gillis brought in not good enough to beat Vandermeer out of a spot? Is that what's keeping our prospects down? Av's constant issue of (frank)ing up the 4rth line? Isnt Kassian going to be on the ice a hell of a lot more than Vandermeer for protection? Lappy fights, Volpatti fights, Weise fights... it's not like Vandermeer is a much better fighter.

Av says we are going defense because of the lack of scoring. Why? He's the one keeping offense out of the line up and no one else. Think about it.. it's about AV's prefered coaching style. He won the war of attrition with Gillis over the kind of hockey the Canucks are to play. Gillis has completely given in...he's not the same GM who came in here guns blazing boldy pushing this team to be a contender. He's very complacent in letting AV's experience dictate the roster. He's ok with which ever way his team is coached... he's ok with recycling AV's old excuses. If AV survives another GM change, I'm following CDC out the door... I've never felt this way over 20 something years of following this team... high and lows.

Everyone reminds me that AV won the JA and went to a final so goodluck replacing him. Lets look at our last coaches that were not good enough... Crawford- Jack Adams- 1 Stanley Cup. Mike Keenan- 1 Stanley cup and 1 final. There was a couple of quick stop gap coaches between then to replace Pat Quinn-35 game unbeaten streak- 2 finals-2 jack Adams. Even Carlyle who was going to replace Crawford was a former 2 time Norris winner who won a Stanley Cup in his second coaching year. AV's record with a roster like the one he has had over the years doesnt impress me that much when you stand him beside the 3 coaches before him who struggled with rosters built on a non competative eternal salary cap. I'm not saying I would have these coaches on the bench right now...but proping Av's success up only looks goos when he's not being compared to other coaches.

I personally think AV has been responsible for more playoff exits than advances over the years...

One thing I noticed (and it's been well documented) across most sports is that a new coach with a certain team (or core of a team) has a certain window of time for their message to be understood and implemented, for the players to peak under that system, and for that window to close. In soccer it's generally 4-5 years before a team's core, coach, or both needs to be refreshed. I feel if we're not there yet we're awfully close with this group.

All good points Booner, I just think that neither Vandermeer nor Schroeder will get in the lineup, but that "Vandy" gets to keep his NHL paycheque because its a) less and b)he would have to clear waivers to get sent to Chicago. Nothing has changed, AV sill has his favourites and unfortunately Schroeder hasn't done whatever it is that would make him an AV favourite (like be older with more NHL experience...)

I don't think so, I thought there was something in there about players who had x amount of NHL experience... I could be totally wrong though! I'll look it up.

So it depends on when they signed their first NHL contract, but it is based on games played and years in the league.

Gaunce is a 2 way player, guys like this seem to it better with AV. Hansen?, Kesler?, Burrows?, Edler? If you are sound defensively AV I'll take a look. I think Gaunce has a good chance.

I agree. When schreoder has the puck in his own zone its scary at times.

Hmmm. Haven't really gotten that sense watching him on the Wolves—he does get outmuscled along the boards when he holds on too long, sometimes, but he's usually smart enough to get rid of it early.

I've been very impressed with his defensive game at the pro level. Was one of the Wolves best PKers last season.

Ok, enough female doging...just watching the Pens Flyers game from the mid 2nd period. Holy poop I hope our team is half this exciting. MAF is standing on his head.

So, is it too early to call the Quick contract an albatross?

Hopefully we're not saying that about Schneider tonight

I think he gets intimadated when he has the puck and has coughed it up in bad spots as well as made bad first passes great on the back check though.

I hope so, too, but it looks bleak, at least until Kesler and Booth are back.

Well if he does, we always have Lu to lean on.

LA can't say the same thing. It's Quick or a .500 goalie (pretty much)

Yep. Really like his effort.

The kid has done everything in his power to improve the aspects of his game that were originally question marks. One of the reasons I think he should have been rewarded with a spot for at least a few games. Too bad he can't do anything about his height

I think people are confusing the early season Schroeder with the one who has played really solid since he was scratched. He responded really well which overshadows his wake up call that was almost 2 months ago. All the same criticisms can be said about Kassian except size and he plays a position that we are deeper in.

I haven't found anywhere that posts consistent AHL advanced stats, and I've looked around a lot.

I was thinking of tracking the Corsi for the Canucks best prospects on the Wolves on my own, but the feeds/sound were poop and I sometimes couldn't even find one.

- Fosco

I wonder why they are called 'advance' stats? They are not new or advanced in any way. There's a reason certain stats are used and others ('advanced' or not) are not. Personally, I am no fan in any way of most 'advanced' stats. Not that it matters with AV here. He does it his way (for better or worse -- some might say for worse or worse) and that's that. Young players will not get much chance with AV -- as we all know -- no matter the stats.

so, if the cap space that Vancouver is saving by keeping Ebbett over Schroeder comes in handy at the deadline is Gillis off the hook?

Ebbett over Schroeder means another 500K (pro-rated) to spend at the deadline.

Someone could have claimed Ebbett just to (frank) Vancouver over.

Gillis is not off the hook until the canucks win a cup.
