As always...Cleary, Abs, Mursak, Quincey.....showing that they serve no purpose out there on the ice. Cleary serves more use to us when he's on IR...maybe he needs to break his leg again....

I said this forever ago, wings fans on this board ripped me a new one.
I agree fully, they think Holland is some sort of nhl god, truth is Holland never had a plan. go out and try to sign Suter, if that fails. (frank) it.

What do you expect the man to do, pull a number 1 defenseman out of his @ss? He won how many cups for the wings? Jesus. You can't expect to be a cup contender forever guys. What did he really have to work with? The wings should have dropped off years ago but they got lucky with Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

Lucky?? Having the best scouts in the league doesn't make them "lucky".

This was my stance for a few years now.

I think we are still a playoff team, but it will have be on the strength of Helm, Smith, etc. Time to cut ties with the vets such as Bertuzzi, Cleary and Quincey. // Emmerton and Mursak should be AHL staples.

Give me Tatar and Nyquist.

Yeah I'll give the management a lot of credit for being way out in front scouting europeans and Russians at a time when most teams weren't investing as many resources there.

But for the fans, you were lucky and have obviously been left with a sense of entitlement to be a top team year after year.

Quincey set the tone...not sure who was scouting the Av's and gave that recommendation regarding giving up a first. Should be fired. 2 out of the first 3 goals really the tone.

No training camp sure didn't help (same for the Blues) with that much turn over on the back end. They will get better, but it may bring a little pressure from Mr. Illitch regarding a trade for Boumeister/Franson. He has pride in his team. The Blue are one of the favorites, but if this is going to be the norm with no flow coming out of the zone, Kenny will be heating up the phones.

ha.

I like what I just saw out of Tootoo and Smith. Boys gettin' physical and then we had some good shifts. We need WAY more of that from now on.

A few trades for big tough guys are needed.

- BooBoo997

Yeah tootoo seemed pretty classless out there. But what do you expect.

I'm not sure if it is a sense of entitlement (speaking for myself), but actually more of gratitude.

Management does a lot of things right regarding structure of payroll. Not over spending on free agents (see Some of the Eastern Conference teams) to name just a few. Finally, teams like the Blues, Kings, Phoenix get to put a handful of top 10 picks on the ice. I HOPE you can at least put some banners up on the rafters and put a highly competitive team on the ice.

its one game, where was the offense? non existent, PP was horrible, Z needs to shoot and stop trying to pass to Brunner all the time. the NHL today is a speed game for hungry players, need guys who want it every night. But, yes the D is a big problem, dont think a Franson/Boumeester pickup would change it that much.

It wasn't just scouting. Moves like getting Rafalski, Larionov, letting some guys walk... like Lapointe when he began his decline. Also not making the Yzerman trade in 96... basically, that same scouting did work with FAs and depth players...

The key for the Wings all of these years was maxing out potential... be it a pick or a FA player.

The issue now, is that we have to wait a bit longer with pieces. That is what is frustrating to us, however, the Wings were the exception not the rule... now we have to adapt to the rule, like all the other 29 teams.

--
Part of me hates seeing this, but part of knew it was coming. I think what the Wings need to do, is understand that we now have to let youth get us in the playoffs vs getting depth vets to get us in... and then relying on a potential youth influx and #5 to make us a cup contender.

I say let the kids play, even if we miss the playoffs. -- I am even warming up to trading Datsyuk and Franzen and doing a full on rebuild around Zetterberg/Filpulla with snotty big, hard working forwards.

Basically hes the only reason Hitch put Reaves in the game. Figured he would do something. Just not smart to run a guy. Wings arent built on "team" toughness. Running someone just means that Daytsuk or Brunner gets hurt later.

They will eventually get their legs, im sure many teams did not like their performance... Wings will bounce back of course, but I do think they need to adjust their style now vs forcing other teams to keep up with our game.

personally, I would like to see a trade for more grit.

This is when Franzen pisses me off.

How he doesn't get nasty when nothing else is beyond me. Zetterberg does his best to throw his body, but that is not his game. Abbey tried but then took his foot of the gas.

I actually thought in the latter part of the game, Emmerton was our best forward. God Damn scary.

What a joke the Wings were tonight. Both Wings goalies got hung out to dry. They were outplayed and outmuscled in every aspect of the game. Not one single player looked good on forward or defense. I feel bad for Smith having to play with a brain dead Quincey.

Wings should have let the entire Grand Rapids team play instead and i should have watched their game instead of this garbage...they atleast won 11-6 and showed some emotion in a bench clearing brawl.

Yep... I would have loved to have watched this game. But it was in Rockford. These two teams have had bad blood for a while and the games can get really physical and nasty. Griffins aren't as big a team as Rockford but will fight with them tooth & nail which makes me respect this Griffins team.

Tonight's game against the Blues was an absolute embarrassment to the Red Wings players AND the front office. This is just more proof positive that Holland needs to start dumping some of these useless vets. Cleary hasn't brought anything to the table in 3 years. Bertuzzi is too old. Samuelsson is a waste of space. And I can tell you Emmerton & Mursak are NOT NHL material just from having seem them play in GR for the last few years. What a pitiful bunch of forwards... this team NEEDs to put Nyquist, Tatar, Andersson on the ice and see what they can do in the NHL. What kind of kick in the a$$ is it going to take ?? The Wings also lack a bonafide heavyweight to drop the gloves to retaliate for cheap shots. The more I see and hear about Quincey... Holland's trade for that 1st round pick appears to be a total BUST. Jacob Kindl does not look like NHL material so far and has completely disappointed.

This team had better start retooling with some players from GR and perhaps burning up the phones for a trade of some sort.

I refuse to panic, but I don`t disagree with what you say. Holland needs to retool because the guys we need to rely are not reliable any longer.

A handful? Blues had a grand total of 1 top 10 pick on the ice last night. Blues have a bunch of first round picks, but mostly in the teens/twenties, only Petro was in the top 10. Well, and Redden I suppose, but he hasn't even practiced with the team yet.
