Well, Forbes said he had the fourth (IIRC) highest operating income in the league - implying profitability - I'm probably more ignorant than they are.
And Rocky himself mentioned city taxes in his Sun Times interview - not stadium expenses, not administrative or other non-player salaries (although he did say getting to 50/50 was important). I'm probably more ignorant than he is.
And I didn't say he was profitable: I said if he wasn't now, he never would be. Although my guess is that he has positive cash flow from operations that turns negative after paying back loans to companies he and his family owns. - StLBravesFan
Yeah operating income means nothing if margins aren't high.
Oh I don't disagree, and that obviously was a shot at the City of Chicago which most business owners will do if you give them the chance.
I don't think he deserves the venom his father did... At least not yet... And I agree those loans and money they dumped into the stadium are probably the biggest contributions to their "negative" right now. |

Be my guest. I find there are better things to talk about - especially since the negativity has been beaten pretty phucking solid over the last 12 months. If you still need to be talking about that you're more than welcome. Consider my statement as an invitation to get excited about something - namely watching the sport that we're all so clearly passionate about!

Agree 100%.
The whole "the players loved Haviland" thing doesn't mean much. This was a pretty undisciplined team last year... I'm not sure what they need is a buddy calling the shots. |

No doom or gloom here. I will not be a fence sitter. I will not be a bandwagon jumper. What I will be is a Hawks fan.
I have been a die hard Hawks fan for over fifty years; I have seen the good and the bad in ownership, presidents, GMs, coaches and players. But during all these years I have been unwaivering in my love and devotion for my Hawks.
I will make my prediction for this years Hawks. They will win the Stanley Cup. I could go on and on about why I believe the Hawks will win the cup but that may only bring attack to my opinion.
There will be many bumps in the road but I for one am going to enjoy the ride, for the final destination will be so much sweeter.

Operating income: actually, it means a lot - basically, income before interest and taxes - basically, the profits from operations (AFTER dealing with margins, revenues, expenses, city taxes, players' salaries at the 57% level, etc.). Forbes estimates the Hawks had operating income of $20MM in whatever year they did this, last year or the year before. Again, debt service would likely have turned this negative (interest and loan repayments to family-owned entities for loans taken out when times were bad).
But I agree - not as bad as his dad - yet. |

Sometimes, although who has replaced Haviland isn't exactly considered top tick in the NHL coaching world.
Most would consider Q a player's coach....When that works everyone is fine with it and when it doesn't ...
I don't think Haviland would be considered a soft touch.
He ran the defense and was a big part of the special teams when the Hawks won the Cup...Yes, personnel changed, but why move him off the defense?
It is obvious Q. got his guys and now there are no more excuses.
We will see how it works out...
