Great start for the Hawks, they're a pleasure to watch when they're in attack-attack-attack mode. There are few teams who offensively have the firepower that this club does. The defense overall is looking much better as well and it seems overall that they're playing as aggressive as I've seen them in two years.

I know Emery had a lousy game and people are upset about it today but honestly Emery is a #2 goalie at this point in his career, nothing more nothing less. If CC has games like this then Bowman better get the team a goalie but I'm not going to sweat that the #2 goalie had a less than decent game.

I also think its only a matter of time before Krueger takes the reigns as the 3rd line center, he's played very well so far as is becoming quite the agitator. On a different note the guy who's spot he would take there would be Shaw who so far I've seen nothing from. I'm wondering if last year was just an aberration for him. He's quickly working his way towards the 4th line and will be back in Rockford if he doesn't pick it up.

Is it equally unclassy of me to hope he gets hit by a car?

Disagree. His positional play is at the NHL level for sure. Had some excellent passes. Very strong on his skates. Had a brilliant redirection that was barely saved. Showed a crazy burst of speed in the 3rd period.

Another few games of settling in should be pretty telling.

I liked his game overall. Really like him from the opposing blue line in.

BUT . . .

He gets muscled off pucks WAY too easily and he seemed to have trouble with the pace at times. You can definitely see the potential. But that said, he isn't there yet nor is it a reasonable expectation that he would be—why he was skating 4th line at the end of the game.

I caught that too. He actually was being double shifted. Took Bolligs spot. Not a demotion, just double shift.

I'd love to this team keep rolling tomorrow against St. Louis, unfortunately with the whole opening night red carpet circus to distract them, I expect them to come out about as flat as LA did on Saturday.

I understood the red carpet treatment for banner raising day two years ago, do we really need this distraction every year?

Am I wrong to think it even matters?

Shaw is not being put in a position that best suits his skills. 3rd line center means a lot of defensive responsibility, covering a ton of ice. I agree kruger is better there. Shaw needs to be on the wing, drilling guys and not so worried about his d coverage. Also harder to park in fron of the net and battle as a centerman. Shaw needs to have his game kept simple.

I agree about Kruger, a couple more games like this and the third line center role will (and should) be his. It's not a knock against Shaw, but I think Kruger is just better suited for center. I'd gave Kruger, Shaw and Frolik on the third line. Kruger and Frolik and really clicked during the 1st two games, at even strength and on the PK. The one guy who hasn't stood out for me is Bickell, I think he should be on the 4th line or the bench.

I hate the pregame stuff. Just drop the puck. Ceremonies should be saved for winning only.

+1

I think this is eventually how it will end up with Krueger moving up to the 3rd line centering for Shaw and Frolik or Stalberg, IMHO.

Sorry, didn't read down one more post and essentially just said the same thing you did. Agree on Bickell too; maybe if he plays every fifth game because that's about how often he shows up.

Believe I saw Morris deliver a head shot on Shaw near the end of the game, a little behind the play--go figure.

Al's right, Phoenix is an easy team to dislike.
