Nice read. Although I agree Brookbank could have played better, I still see him as an upgrade over what Montador and O'D provided last year. |

As a diehard Chisox fan as well...i take every loss hard...but i had a revelation last year. It's futile getting hot over losses in April and May...because FFS...you're team's pretty much going to lose at least 60 games a year...that's a lot of heartache. Baseball losses, early in the season, are now a lot easier for me to take.

I called him the sleeper of the new players the other day...
I was expecting to him hold his position in front of the net better but I agree.
He played more minutes last season as the year went on...

How about that Rockford Brawl? Apparently Hutton can throw with the best of 'em.
Some good points on yesterday's game: Brookbank can take the body pretty well, just needs to not get knocked into his own netminder. Its too bad carcillo is out already as he fit on that line very well. We may finally have an effective fourth line, just need a few more faceoff wins. Thought the 3rd line was the least effective, likely because its wingers were stalberg and bickell. I thought I saw bickell on the fourth towards the end of the game. Nice to see the Hawks come out firing with the big boys leading the way. |

Not a bad start, you could however see the rust on both teams, as could be expected.
A few observations on the D. I thought Hjarm had a nice game. My only complaint with him is that he is slow to pull the trigger on shots in the offensive zone. There were several instances where he was given opportunities to get the puck on goal, yet he waited too long to take a shot, and instead played it down the boards. Someone needs to tell him its OK to throw a shot on goal once in awhile. Defensively he was solid.
Brookbank had an average game. There were a couple of nice plays where he put a body on the Kings player along the boards, but in open ice he fell into the Hawk mode of positionally sound stick waving.
Keith had a solid game. When he got in trouble, such as when he took his penalty, is when he over-handles the puck. On the penalty, he had clear possession, and tried to get cute with it, he lost the puck and the trip was him trying to recover.
Oduya mostly just looks like he isnt in game shape yet. Looked a little slow and rusty, but he was not horrible.
Seabrook was his normal solid self, I thought he had the best game of all the D.
Leddy was OK. He was for the most part positionally sound and played the opponent to the outside and into poor shooting angles, but there is still a little to much stick waving and reaching. He gets himself in trouble with his footwork when he stops moving his feet to attempt the stick checks. You will see many times where his feet are not in good position to recover if the opponent makes a strong move.

Hammer and being reluctant to shoot may have something to do with coaching.
Oduya was average except he ate up a lot of shorthanded minutes.
I am in the minority but I wouldn't be surprised if Leddy takes his spot but both need to play special teams....Leddy PP-Oduya PP.
Being able to have a quick stick is an art....Keith is a lot better at it now than when he was 22. |

I think Kruger played very well and so did Frolik if we don´t mind the obvious. Third line was weakest in my opinion from offensive lines. Seabrook looked solid out there and Keith was good too. Hjalmarsson and Brookband weren´t bad either, Oduya didn´t looked that good though.
But damn did Blues played well against Red Wings..Tarasenko man! |

Looks like Kyle Beach instigated the bench clearer by continuing to pound the guy he was scraping with when he had him down on the ice. - jhawk159
I think that and the refs--for sending some sort of message with a parade of penalties vs RFD after a goal was argued.
Sounds like Beach was...well, Beach and the refs lost control due to their own actions.
Looked like Beach finally won a fight and couldn't bring himself to let up. Wonder if the GR player was smaller... |

Hawks soundly beat the Kings.
Detroit gets murdered.
Goalie shenanigans in Vancouver.
What a great start to the season. |

I miss the 2nd goal when NBC f'd over Hawk fans across the continent...think Brooky will be alright Al. - philco28
I am really angry about what happened with the NBC coverage, how they decided the the Kings-Hawks was no contest a little ways into the 3rd and took everyone to Philly-Pittsburgh.
I was dvr-ing on both the NHL Centre Ice and a western channel because I knew that the East where I am was covering Philly-Pittsburgh only.
BOTH channels switched to the OTHER GAME….no announcement that viewers wanting to continue watching Chicago-LA could on MSNBC another NBC channel.
I understand the Chicago feeds stayed with the game, but NBC made a poor decision for me in hopes of holding viewership to NBCsports with the game jump.
But for the Centre Ice package to let it happen defeats the reason I pay the $ to see the out-of-town market games.
Just got four quick things to say:
The last three games we saw Carcillo play he was far better than average in the attack zone and made much space for Hossa & Toews yesterday. There is no fill for him.
Someone talk bad about Kruger, and you will embarrass yourself. He was exceptional in all roles, acted as the 2nd face-off man on the Hossa Toews line when they started in their own zone, killed penalties, and manned the centre position on his own line. It really isn't difficult to see the things he does, just watch.
Crawford looked confident and aggressive and good enough to not lose games.
Also thought Brookbank was very active clearly guys...go back and watch. I know the screened goal was when he and Clifford were vying for position but Clifford is a muscleman...

I have mixed feelings about this. On the plus side, this should be good enough most nights if the D can keep SOG down under 25 and the quality of shots isn't too high. On the down side, it's just depressing if that's the best we can hope for. |

Hiya Wiz!!
I have been a Kruger supporter for a while,I had the pleasure of watching him in the SEL league..I love the effort this kid gives, and his move at the blueline, and pass to Frolik was nasty,he weaved a few more passes during the game too,ai really think he is a solid player, and can be plugged in to the 2nd 3rd or 4th lines, just wish he could win a few more faceoffs...
And I agree about Carcillo,he will be missed, don't really se Saad helping out the first line,I wish they would send him down to Rockford for the remainder of the season...
How about Danault at Moncton,3 games 7 points and killing it at the dot..you think the Hawks bring him up after his season in the Qmjhl?

I'll take Crawford with a 2.00 GAA for the season if he can... .905 on save percentage is not the best but a win is a win! |

Agree! I thought Krueger had a great game yesterday and am excited to watch his continued development.
Your Clifford comment jogged my memory as that was who Leddy steered into the boards very nicely and was able to pin there until help arrived. It impressed me because it was Clifford. |
