That goal 'could' have been disallowed on the basis of goaltender interference. In part, it was a score call - at 4-0 the referees don't want to disallow a home team goal.

And to highlight the inconsistency of NHL rules as it relates to things that are or are not allowable around the goal crease - in another game they handed out a minor penalty to a player for giving the goalie a snowshower at the whistle.

- RickJ

yeah I thought that was interference to. so don't touch the goalie in the crease but knock his dman into him and all is well...dumb.

good to see they will be cracking down on that open ice interference crap that players have gotten away with.

You have to feel bad for Carbomb. First game back after a tough knee surgury and rehab and now out again.

Schneider gives up 5 in 14 shots? Luongo might not be on the market much longer.

Saw Leddy taking the body pretty solidly and also thought he looked confident.

I was disappointed from the standpoint Brookbank got knocked around some. He needs to play to his size. The second goal was on him. Not awful but I think he can be better.

I miss the 2nd goal when NBC f'd over Hawk fans across the continent...think Brooky will be alright Al.

I know its easy to nit pick everything, but I think the Bickel turnover/bad puck management was more a culprit. He inadvertently cycled the puck back down.

Liked Leddy playing with him. Leddy looked more confident today. Agree on the Saad call. Though technically/old school wise, you want that checking third line, I am more of the mindset of having balance on each line and Stalbergs speed makes him dangerous and other teams are always aware when he is on the ice.

- TrueGrit

Saad will never work on the checking line. Not enough grit. He can be hidden on the second line for a bit, maybe hold his own even.

I thought Leddy looked great. Fast, good stick work, good positioning and even showed some strength in the board battles.

That second goal who was the dude wearing ?7 who was in position to block the shot but was too candya$$ to go down?

Overall great game. I started to wonder if there's any chance tango could be right all along... That this team can and will contend for the cup as is? Naw... Too early.

While you can never count out a team with Holland and Babcock leading it, this could be the year their playoff streak ends. I heard Pang mention Brunner was a big Hawk fan growing up. So he gets huge points for that
- tomcat24

Have a lot of respect for both of them and they interviewed Brunner before the game; seems like a good guy except for the Wing thing. I just think sometimes some perspective is needed in the sense that the Hawks aren't the only team that overhypes they're prospects. Gustav Nyquist is another guy who when he was up looks like he can find a spot in the NHL but the way the Wing broadcasters and local media talk about the guy you'd think they cloned Zetterberg.

They have had a great run but I think after 48 games they may not have a playoff spot. It's too early to tell but I just don't think they did enough to fill the void from the dmen leaving (Lidstrom, Stuart, Rafalski) over the last 2 years. Quincey looked awful tonight, not that he was alone. I also think up front even though his production tailed off last year Holmstrom still went to the front of the net and I think they will miss that almost as much as Lidstrom retiring.

I agree with this but moreover Brookbank needs to be stronger there and not get knocked over into his own net.

Sometimes a little easier said than done when the other team has a 4th line with 6'4" 230 lb forwards who decide to go to the net.

Don't be surprise Phil to see your boy the pizza man (Oduya) swapping roles with Leddy before too long. Out of all of the D out there, thought he had the weakest game. Several times Hjalmarsson had to bail Oduya's azz out on stupid decisions. IMO, Oduya looked very slow.

OTOH, it looks like we may have Hjalmarsson returning to his Cup-year form, which would be very welcome news.

Leddy looked very strong -- no guys turnstyling him and some really strong work along the boards.

Was happy to see Keith's TOI down significantly -- still is the wrong guy, though, on the point.

And to whomever talked about give Tampon a chance on the PP -- I wouldn't be gushing over the 1 for 5 performance with the only PP coming on a 5 on 3 that only scored because you had 2 of the best forwards playing catch with a nice 1 timer to finish off with I think 2 seconds left.

Keith was pulling his same shlit coming up ice on the PP -- tentative, slow, drop passes and all the uncertainty of what to do. If you paid attention, Leddy carried the puck up and if there was no simple pass to make, carried the puck and dumped it deep to allow for puck retrieval. I'll take that any day over the crap Keith seems to know how to do.

And all the talk about movement during the PP -- again, didn't see a whole heck of a lot of difference between last yr and this yr. This yr's PP still looks like a failure in waiting.

I watched the game again today...I thought they looked ok on the PP once they entered the zone and would settle down, they had good movement, and moved the puck well...they did crap the bag on entering the zone a few times, but it was the first game of the season...I think we need to give this team 10-15 games to see where the PP and PK will be...In my opinion, it is more inportant to have a potent PK...really can't wait to see what they look like tonight, it's a shame that CarBomb got injured, and can this team please please trade for someone that can win some FO's??? Other than Toews the team was dreadful on FO's!!!

Thought the hawks played really well yesterday. Great game fellas.

2 areas of opportunity.... Faceoffs need to be won by those not named Toews and the hawks have to get more physical or their star players will continue to be human piñatas. Other than that everything else was flawless. Even craw made some big saves.

I look forward to Flyers @ 11:30 today, The Pats/Ravens game @ 5:30, and the Hawks @ 9:30. Great day for sports... Hope the wife doesn't mind babysitting Lol.

It is gonna be hard for the Hawks to find more physical players and a goalie and a faceoff guy..I thought the Hawks were overall more physical than last year, they were using their bodies to separate Kings players from the puck, and that is a start..The faceoffs are a huge problem, and I still can't believe Bolland or Kruger can't work on it during the offseason...This team needs a Madden type guy, that can win faceoffs on the PK...I mean they call themselves a puck possession team, yet they lack another guy to win more than 50% of his faceoffs, which is probably the most important element of being a faceoff team...
By the way, I liked the way philly looked last night, here's to them beating the hell outta Buffalo tonight!!

Looks like Kyle Beach instigated the bench clearer by continuing to pound the guy he was scraping with when he had him down on the ice.

Savvy, i'll grant you that Oduya didn't look great, but keep in mind, your boy Leddy is game fit and that's obviously a huge advantage.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Rozsival in tonight.
