Hockey can really be a simple game. LA started coming on. Who was responsible? The steroid-abusers. Just hit people and crash the net and hack and whack away. Hawks had a good game, though. We will see what they can do against TALL Smith tomorrow. |

Quenneville said Carcillo has a "lower-body injury" and will miss some time. Didn't sound good. |

Keith 22:44, Seabrook 23:01, no forwards over 19 minutes
Good start - NewToHockey
And Oduya and Hjalmarsson at about 21 - good coach's trust in top-4 defensemen.
Crawford ok - allowed his usual two to three - thought he could have been looking inside on the first, wish he looked calmer trying to get up on the second - but ok.
Face-offs - actually, Shaw at 50%, Boland at almost 50% - could have been worse.
Good to start wit a win on the road against a good team. |

Hip check by Doughty I believe. Rather innocent play. Same knee by chance?
From a hockey standpoint, he's just a guy...certainly replaceable. |

Since it's the NHL, we may not know the exact injury until Carcillo writes his memoir.
I cringed in the first when Toews was cross checked from behind...almost went head first into the boards. I'l be cringing alot this year I'm sure. |

Good win today boys!
Defense/Crawford looked pretty good... Those 2 goals weren't completely his fault, in my opinion.
Great to see Hoss playing like a beast. That one-timer by Kane was just too sick. Special teams looked much better than last year (especially the PK).
Still early... but I like what I saw.

I think you forgot the purple font. I'm thinking Rozsival replaces him tomorrow.
Frolik had a solid game today, nice goal and good on the PK. I'd expect to see Frolik on the 3rd line and Bickell on the 4th or the bench (with Mayers playing). |

First goal was kinda his fault... He has to clear the net or get out of the way so Corey can see the puck...
Other than that, he looked pretty solid... Almost a poor man's Brent Seabrook. |

If this is the effort we see this season and the big guns lead the way, it will be a very good year even if Crawford is just ok.
I thought Brookbank had a strong game. Played very solid, stay at home defense.

If the D is allowing only 21 shots a night, it will be a good year. |

Considering what Eddie said earlier in the week, did anyone else find it hilarious that they started by noting that Crawford is a huge question mark for the Hawks and Eddie didn't utter a sound? |

That's a big stat and one that is important in this type of short season. Keith has always been a much better player when his TOI is not crazy high.

simple check to pin him to the boards, leg got pinned and he kept moving
please, do tell, who is going to replace him? cause from my viewpoint, he's not "just a guy" - important piece of the overall puzzle |

Operating income: actually, it means a lot - basically, income before interest and taxes - basically, the profits from operations (AFTER dealing with margins, revenues, expenses, city taxes, players' salaries at the 57% level, etc.). Forbes estimates the Hawks had operating income of $20MM in whatever year they did this, last year or the year before. Again, debt service would likely have turned this negative (interest and loan repayments to family-owned entities for loans taken out when times were bad).
But I agree - not as bad as his dad - yet. - StLBravesFan
Yeah, I really need to use my dictionary more often. |

Threw an awesome old time hockey hip check
Good game, Kane looked good, Bolland was throwing his body around, Stalberg and Bickell were aggressive, Kruger was all kinds of solid, Hossa is a beast, all 4 lines were popping.
I'd give Crawford a pass on the first goal but the swimming on the second was a bit not good.
And gonna plug my prediction that Quick would let in +4 goals opening night |

No one can replace his role.Since we are already playing our bench though,I would give Paradis a look if Carbomb is out.Won't cost a dime. |

I think Paradis would be effective doing that job from the little I have seen of him but it will probably be Hayes.
With the kind of schedule all teams are going to play, I can see an injury casualty every second game. I'm predicting needing 30 players total to get thru the regular season. In the end, we may be thankful Stan has stashed so many players in Rockford. |
