Seriously, how the young kids of today (5-10 year olds) could be Leaf fans is amazing. They've known nothing but totally bad teams.

Maybe now is a good time to note that the last time these guys signed they were restricted free agents. With unrestricted free agency looming, things are much different this time around.

That said, Getzlaf loves it in Cali, from most reports, and would probably want to stay there. The only hope would be convincing Perry to play close to home, and praying that its something that may sway him.

I am telling you, Getzlaf is the most over rated player in the NHL. You do not want the Leafs to sign him as a UFA, not that he will ever be a UFA in a million years. Now Corry Perry, that is a wet dream. I am sure Getzlaf could possibly rebound, but I find it amusing that 1 year can make or break a player sometimes and other times for whatever reason, guys get a free pass.

Getzlaf has been declining for 3 years. Last year, he scored 11 goals and had 56 points. He looked disinterested and was uninterested, yet everyone wants the Leafs to give him a max contract.

To put that in perspective, Grabovski had a similar year playing second line minutes. Except, Grabbo got 30 goals.

In my opinion cheering for a bad team makes winning all the more sweeter. Its not as valuable if you switch teams and win. Thats why Ray Bourque's cup is kind of tainted. Its why Jerome Iginla doesnt want to leave the Flames; if he doesnt win with the Flames, whats the point of riding someone elses coattails, right?

Joffrey Lupul and Clarke MacArthur will be alternate captains for the #leafs this season.
