Ya fair enough. So then it was probably him and Komorov fighting for the 3rd line role. I guess Orr was in that battle too. If Orr wasn't good they could have put Frattin on the 3rd line and moved Komorov to the 4th.
Hey who knows, maybe Orr got good at hockey? - xxCHRISTOFIRExx
I don't mind if they play Orr, Brown and McClement five minutes a night and they just run around running over people and punching guys in the head, I think that could be good

In today's NHL (IMO) Benn has more value than Lu. You might get Lu for Gardiner and Bozak but it wouldn't be close to get you Benn. Contract hit, age, and future potential put Benn above Lu.
In a realistic trade situation, Dal knows that the leafs want to get younger and build a core around size and skill. I would be asking more than the leafs have to offer.

yup, same as I've been saying.
Carlyle doesn't feel Frattin earned a spot. His play with the Marlies lately would confrim that.
We'll see him soon, just not opening night. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing if Orr can actually play.

Frattin wasnt up against orr. Hes not a fourth line player. Probably more in the 2nd/ 3rd line range. I guess orr isnt really a 4th liner either. More of a boxer than anything. - kylkri
Frattin on the 3rd line, Komarov to the 4th line, Orr to the unemployment line.

Again, just my opinion. - bloatedmosquito
I'm almost certain there was a Nucks fan in here earlier wondering why we'd give up such and such for Benn, but not for Luongo... might have been in the Ek thread.
Several heads banged on walls trying to explain it to him...

There's no doubt that Benn has some skill...but he was not his team's leading scorer (Eriksson), and according to his advanced stats, he was fourth among Dallas forwards in Quality of Competition. He could very well see his production skyrocket over the next few years, or then again it might not. Dallas doesn't seem to be as optimistic if they're not even in the same general pay bracket...and this is after signing Jagr and Whitney.
Late to the party. Not competing for same spot. - Big_Lightnin
I just got on, some of us have to work, homie g.
Point is, Colton Orr is a total waste of a roster spot, I haven't seen the guy play in forever, who knows if he can if still keep up in the NHL. I'd never keep a one dimensional fighter like Orr over pretty much ANYONE. Frattin should be on this team, and i'm not even saying he's that good, point is, this team BLOWS.

well, they're not in the same pay bracket cause they can't afford to pay him what he's worth (or what he thinks he's worth). Tryin to get him long term for cheap. He sees Zajac's contract and for sure he's worth that.
Over 20 goals every year without getting premium Minutes all the time.

But on the flip side which of those two players would provide the leafs with instant dividends? Benn, single handily, will not get you into the playoffs. But Lu could. I know some leaf fans that only care about the short term and I know leaf fans that want short term pain for long term gain.

So basically he's Mikhail Grabovsky.
Edit: I should add...Benn's getting more favourable minutes than Grabovsky.
