God damn it, Colton Orr, what a waste of a roster spot. Holy crap what a stupid decision! Both Frattin and Steckel are way more useful than Orr.

Glad to see Kadri make the team, at center no less but keeping Frattin and Steckel out of the line-up just to have Orr is idiotic. The guy can't skate and he can't play more than 4 minutes a night. With so many games in so few days, the 4th line is going to have to be able to play at least 10 minutes a night.

Kostka makes sense until Gardiner comes back but get Komisarek out of the damn top-six.

Out of all this, if Kadri can manage to succeed at center, switch him with Bozak. Immediately.

Cool...

Weather hasn't cooperated for a rink. We have one across the road from us but it was only suitable for 1-2 days about a week ago. Didn't get a chance to get over to it before it warmed up.

I prefer the bigger lots, as you said lots of room for the kids and dog.

5 degrees and rainy tomorrow afternoon.

Tough year for rinks in Toronto.

When I was younger, we'd be on the rink across the street every day.... and it'd be in early Dec if not sooner. During Christmas break we'd live over there....... the last few years couldn't even get a rink.

I don't think being an NHL GM is as complex as it may seem. Basic principle: build patiently through the draft, don't trade 1st picks for quick fixes. Develop your young players properly. Don't make stupid trades. Don't over pay for over rated UFA's. Burke subscribed to some of the above but not to all of them. If he did, he could have been a successful GM for the Leafs for the next decade.
- GCHonda

I couldnt disagree more. What you are describing is a laymans idea of how to build a team. Again, I refer you to the "success" of the Capitals, Islanders, Jets, and a half dozen other teams.

Tell the difference between building patiently through the draft, or having 6 top ten picks in your system (Kessel, Dion, Kadri, Lupul, Rielly, JVR) Does it realy matter what team picked them?

Conversley, I know its unpopular (probably because its correct) but when you compare the chance of getting the first pick, the chance of any first rounder "making it" and the way in which teams consistantly over value draft picks, then there is considerable value to be had in trading draft picks.

Which illistrates what I believe to be the essential skill of a gm: finding added value.

Unlikely scenario, but if they are considering using Frattin as potential trade bait, putting him on 4th line would lower his potential "perceived" value. I would love to see him in the lineup but not on the 4th line.

I would keep Orr in the pressbox, but might play him vs teams like Boston.

Have you actually seen Orr skate in camp? Serious question.

I haven't, but Eakins himself said he's improved a ton. As has Barb the skating chick.

Steckel?

You've got a man crush on Steckel?

C'mon, Uggie, I know you have a deeply ingrained iconoclast persona, but Steckel?

What the hell can that guy do that McClemment can't do?

And as for Orr, Eakins sat him down and told him how to re-invent himself. You're going to see a totally different Orr.

Of course, you're going to see him in the press box after Saturday.

As per my earlier post: silver lining is he can eat popcorn for 44 games, and won't complain at all.

This.

If we got a true #1, Bozak goes to the third line without question. Grabo's #2 spot is firmly cemented here.

Except that if we were to say, attempt to aquire Jamie Benn, you have to assume they would want Grabovski in the deal.

Maybe Gardner, Grabovski and a first is enough to get it done. They might even include Robidas if we included Franson.

FUKKEN UNBELIEVABLE, I've had a really bad bronchitis cough since Jan 3. Been off work a week & a half. With my bronchitis almost 80% gone, on Tuesday, my doctor & I agreed that by this coming Monday I should be fine to return to work so I mailed in my work sick benefit form declaring that I'll be back on Monday. Now today the brochitis is again is reariing it's ugly head once again. Mind you, the massive sinus congestion is now long gone as well as the drained energy. But the brochitis seems to wanna linger around. WTF?

If they are going cheap on Benn's contract, I doubt they want Grabbo.

I like him, but in the new NHL, he's overpaid.
