I like Lupul, don't get me wrong. But to expect him, at age 28, to put up career year after career year is a little too optimistic, even for me.

Ultimately, that top line needs size and puck protection. If we manage to go out and snag a 6'2" 210 lb. top line centre, then Lupul is fine there. But since that's not exactly the easiest thing to do, I'd say that JVR needs to become the 70-80 point top line winger with size that he was drafted as.

I do hope he gets some good looks on the top line.

Whatever the circumstances, I wouldn't be surprised if one of Kadri or JVR is centring the first line.

Whether or not he becomes that top line player will hinge on the types of players he's playing against. Him and Kadri on the third line together won't face top notch D pairings.

And as far as Loops is concerned, as long as he's healthy, he still has a lot of good years in him. He's in a contract year as well so I expect him to more or less keep up the pace with Kessel. Those two fit perfectly within weeks of his arrival in TO
