Was it not Getzlaf who had problems with Randy Carlyle? What about Perry? How was he with Carlyle?

I get the impression most people who hype JVR haven't looked at his stats.

Not to say they're poor, and he won't get the same ice time here. And perhaps having the creativity of Kadri along with other team's 3rd pairing Dmen to compete with will help. That said, he's no all-star

- AngryWhiteMale

His stat lines aren't great but that's why he was available. I think a lot of us, me included are hoping to see the JVR from the playoffs 2 years ago. Wasn't it 11 goals?

apparently so did Lupul... so either Carlyle doesnt get along with a lot of players, or maybe doesn't like laziness or something like that.

Carlyle can go pretty fast too, we have a Coach in the AHL who is decent

- senstroll

One interesting thing that came out of the Burke firing was the info. that Nonis pushed hard for Eakins to be the coach last spring. Writing's on the wall?

Mostly it is Sheldon, the one episode that he turned himself into a computer was one of the funniest episodes in any tv comedy that I have ever seen.

7 goals in 11 games. Still not too shabby. And more than the stats, his play was really starting to become recognized that year

I agree with a lot of your criticism of our current 'building blocks'. However, Grabo IS a legit no. 2 centreman on most teams in this league.
- triggermartin

Man ... Come on. The guy is a one trick pony, and it isn't passing or shooting. That's like saying Tucker deserved his role when he played for us. Same thing would happen with Grabo. He would drift into the "unknown" on any other team.

I hope JVR gels with Kessel.

I like Lupul, don't get me wrong. But to expect him, at age 28, to put up career year after career year is a little too optimistic, even for me.

Ultimately, that top line needs size and puck protection. If we manage to go out and snag a 6'2" 210 lb. top line centre, then Lupul is fine there. But since that's not exactly the easiest thing to do, I'd say that JVR needs to become the 70-80 point top line winger with size that he was drafted as.

I do hope he gets some good looks on the top line.

Lupul Born September 23, 1983 (age 29)
He just got a year older.

If he is having a good year..time to sell high

Compare his stats. They are upper echelon 2nd line centre stats, like it or not.

The brothers grew up infront of a camera. Phil had the most successful trap and field type show in the US for 15 years. 70's and 80's I believe. They've all gone to university (except Cy).

Not the rednecks they portray on TV. Still an awesome show though.

not to mention grabovski is always paired up against the #1 line of other team, or at least in most cases.

I think I have two on my rap sheet. One for suggesting that loving hockey doesn't make you an expert (I realize I'm treading a fine line here).

And another because the Vancouver mod didn't quite get the unique comedy stylings of Atomic Wedgie - but thanks to Leafs mods, I managed to overturn the ban on appeal.

I;ve done this before... Lupul's spike in point totals directly correlates with his increased ice-time and #1 PP unit time. He's always been a point producer, but only ever received 2nd/3rd line minutes and spotty PP duty.

In Toronto he got premium minutes and put up premium points. It's not a stretch to think it will continue.
