Yup, the unemployment rates in the States are pretty bad. Thanks for the glaring example.

Man, this is the same thought process that leads people to say getting Kessel was mortgaging the future. Kessel was 21. Benn is, I believe, 21. Even if hes a bit older, the point is, Benn is going to be a star in this league and he's young. Basically youre trading his entry level contract for the fact that you know hes going to work out and theres no risk. Hardly a mortgaging of the future.

I would offer sheet him and pay the 5 first rounders. He's that good.

- Aquaman_2400

No. I would way rather suck major ball s*ck and get 1st overall than trade for jamie benn. Lets develope the right way, we dont need to trade lots of assets for benn.

or you could call it like it is, and now how you see it.

What's better: Kessel, Phaneuf, JVR or Seguin, Hamilton, Schenn, Stajan, Ian White, Nik Hagman.

Why are there a plethora of factors missing from this, if we're going to call it like it is?

I am gonna say quite a bit more.
- Aquaman_2400

Why's that? Benn's still about a far from being an elite-producing centre, as Gardiner is being an elite-producing defenseman. Both around the same age...

o that was a brutal signing by nj especially with his injury problems
- matt1337

I think that it was clearly a desperation move so that they didn't lose another big piece that they had drafted and developed

As weird as this may sound, I'm going to stick up for Connolly here.

I'm going to assume that when Burke talked to him about coming to Toronto, he was given assurances that he would be given 1st line minutes and PP time.

Say what you want about him, but the guy had 3 less even strength points than Bozak, while playing 3 less games, getting 2 less minutes of TOI/G than Bozak, and playing with dog poop as line-mates.

He felt he deserved more PP time this year. Bozak got a minute more per game last year.

I never really understood that with Wilson last year: you bring in Connolly, he gets injured to start the season, and then you never give him a fair chance to get back into the groove.

I'm not saying it's right, but I can certainly see why Connolly would be pissed. In his mind (at least) he was never given a chance to succeed.

- Atomic Wedgie

Don't go around sticking up for Connolly. Despite his excellent work on the PK and his willingness to throw himself in front of a Zedeno Chara slapshot with no chance of his team making the playoffs, people don't like him. He's a classic T.O whipping boy and you get mad-dogged like crazy around here if you don't call him a loser. Now, that being said, I woulda cut him too , but only because he was standing in the way of a younger player making the team. He is a usefull player and he will definatley be picked up by another team since the Leafs are allowed to pay some of his salery.

i was strictly referring to those 3 players in terms of their return because the original post did as well. it's like me saying, who would you rather have, Jeff Skinner and Jordan Staal or Tomas Kaberle and Jaroslav Spacek?

Well, the Leafs held the practice during the day, when Torontonians either work or go to school.

I realize those things don't get in the way for most Philadelphians...

for the devils to make that deal after a lockout was like a slap in the face of the new CBA.
they began the ruin of contracts with that stupid Kovalchuk deal, and then tossed another bloated, ridiculous deal to a mid-level player.
unbelievable.

Actually it was Detroit. I believe that Zetterberg was the first guy signed to one of the Back-diving contracts

Ok, I would definitely move Gardiner for him.

Gardiner and Frattin? Probably too little but you gotta try right?

Benn will sign with Dallas... just wait and see of Getzlaf is available at all as a UFA ... Getzlaf and 5 first round picks is better than Benn ..now and in 10 years.

Both have the same likleyhood of happening.
Stop trying to Burke this team into another 4 years of 26th place

I don't think you've seen many Stars games then. Out of ten, I would rank Ben an 8 for career potential maybe a 9. Ben is going to be among the elite, ppg, perenial allstar. If Gireux can turn into a Hart trophy candidate, so can Benn. Benn is THAT good.
