or you could call it like it is, and now how you see it.

What's better: Kessel, Phaneuf, JVR or Seguin, Hamilton, Schenn, Stajan, Ian White, Nik Hagman.

- scotch_tape

Is that a real question? Without even a shadow of doubt, Kessel, Phaneuf and JVR is by a mile or more better than Seguin Hamilton Schenn Stajan, White and Hagman.

Thats like asking who is a better signer, Morrisey or Clay Aiken.

add in Gardiner, Lupul, Liles, Colbourne(meh) and Beauchemin & a broken down Kaberle.

If the Leafs were trying to trade for Jamie Benn, the deal would likely have to include Gardiner, otherwise the trade would make no sense for Dallas
- mikeinbuffalo

I would shift out Gardiner for Benn. Then you just pray the Reilly can fill his spot next year.

Does Benn play C at all? I always thought he was a winger.

Two firsts and a second + Frattin for Benn and Robidas. Instant contender.

o that was a brutal signing by nj especially with his injury problems
- matt1337

for the devils to make that deal after a lockout was like a slap in the face of the new CBA.
they began the ruin of contracts with that stupid Kovalchuk deal, and then tossed another bloated, ridiculous deal to a mid-level player.
unbelievable.

I meant to both sides of the equation.

Actually, since he signed Beauchemin, I guess you can put him in twice, or take him out entirely.

Or be similar to the Kessel deal. Yegawds, I hope not...

Love Benn, but no point mortgaging the future. It looks as though we have three line who are capable of close to 150-200 points between them over a full season, I'm okay with that as long as we can play some proper D behind them.

- lumlums

Man, this is the same thought process that leads people to say getting Kessel was mortgaging the future. Kessel was 21. Benn is, I believe, 21. Even if hes a bit older, the point is, Benn is going to be a star in this league and he's young. Basically youre trading his entry level contract for the fact that you know hes going to work out and theres no risk. Hardly a mortgaging of the future.

I would offer sheet him and pay the 5 first rounders. He's that good.

I think it was as a result of it. Apparently Connolly wanted a bigger role (naturally) and if it wasn't going to be there he may have asked to get out.
- Big_Lightnin

As weird as this may sound, I'm going to stick up for Connolly here.

I'm going to assume that when Burke talked to him about coming to Toronto, he was given assurances that he would be given 1st line minutes and PP time.

Say what you want about him, but the guy had 3 less even strength points than Bozak, while playing 3 less games, getting 2 less minutes of TOI/G than Bozak, and playing with dog poop as line-mates.

He felt he deserved more PP time this year. Bozak got a minute more per game last year.

I never really understood that with Wilson last year: you bring in Connolly, he gets injured to start the season, and then you never give him a fair chance to get back into the groove.

I'm not saying it's right, but I can certainly see why Connolly would be pissed. In his mind (at least) he was never given a chance to succeed.
