Apparently Gillis is having a meltdown.

Blaming the Toronto media with the failed Luongo talks.

Where and when was this? Any links?

Someone hit the nail on the head earlier on the Orr over Frattin thing: It's about accountability and earning your way, not having it handed to you. We weren't at camp, we don't know what kind of shape he's in, what his attitude is like. But he said Orr earned the spot and Frattin didn't. Don't complain about that.

He's trying to get rid of a culture of entitlement we've been chipping away at since the Muskoka 5. If Orr worked his way into the lineup but he gave it to Frattin because he "should" have it or "on paper" it was the logical thing to do it would undermine everything he's trying to do. The other guys would see it and not take his threats of keeping people accountable seriously.

That's a minor example, of course, since it's a 4th line spot but it's a sign of things to come. I fully expect him to bench guys when they aren't producing or moving guys up the lineup as needed. I just hope he does it when it's actually necessary and not just to show people who's boss.

Would not pay that for that long, he demanded that money and thats why the coyotes said no to resigning him Reimer is crap too i hate when they say i believe in our goalies cause its utter BS, They really dont, they just dont want to harm the team and sell the farm for a goalie that will be useless if we DONT HAVE THE TEAM to play in front of him. Tell me what is the use of luongo, if we dont have "the team" to contend or win? That was burkes motive
- Mapleleafs_91

It would be a change. It would be a start ... It would be a reason for fans to at least have some kind of false hope rather then knowing what is coming for the season. Luongo is far from done ... And if he stays in Vancouver for long, he will win his job back. We needed 2 things this offseason. 2 things only ... Someone to play 1C, and a goalie that can play in the NHL. How could we have not addressed either one. One of the best things about sports is the excitement of what could happen ... But as a Leafs fan for the past 8 years, we've already known the result.

If the Leafs were trying to trade for Jamie Benn, the deal would likely have to include Gardiner, otherwise the trade would make no sense for Dallas

So does Gillis.
- Gunslinger

I think Gillis is pissed that the Leafs are seriously interested in Luongo anymore. They were, really, the only team that even closely resembled an ideal location for Luongo. Now, with the change in leadership, the Leafs are ready to let the younger guys sink or swim to see where the organization stands right now. Good on Nonis for not biting on anything but his price, and his price only. Let the Canucks sit with both goalies if that's what they prefer.

And that's not a deal breaker...but it would depend on what the + is... which would likely be a deal breaker

Two firsts and a second + Frattin for Benn and Robidas. Instant contender.

If it was straight up Benn for Gardiner? Done.
After doing the silly Neal for Goligoski deal, I doubt they will make that mistake twice.

Or be similar to the Kessel deal. Yegawds, I hope not...

Love Benn, but no point mortgaging the future. It looks as though we have three line who are capable of close to 150-200 points between them over a full season, I'm okay with that as long as we can play some proper D behind them.

To show you that I am a fair and reasonable guy I want to acknowledge you as 100% on the money with this one.

And I WOULD include Gardner in a trade for Benn if that was the starting point.

No sorry, totally incorrect. Burke refused to (and had too much honour and integrity) make the team better in the short term. Its his plan and theyre still following it. He made the product on the ice way way better. Its dissapointing to see people say he didnt. Whats better Kessel Phaneuf and JVR or Antropov Kaberle and Stajan? Come on! Bottom line is that he revamped this organization and I for one am more excited about this team then I have ever been. Its young, exciting and we get to watch them grow together. Just because his roster hasnt had success yet doesnt mean that it wouldnt in the future.
- Aquaman_2400

or you could call it like it is, and now how you see it.

What's better: Kessel, Phaneuf, JVR or Seguin, Hamilton, Schenn, Stajan, Ian White, Nik Hagman.

Not when you consider that all they really have to be ... Is a step up fom Bozak and Reimer. There are 2nd lines and backup goalies throughout the league that excel those 2.

Deal. Reilly replaces Gardiner. We have Finn, Franson, Gunnarson, Rielly, Holzer, Phaneuf, Kostka, who are all relatively young... We can afford to give one up for a guy like Benn.
