Regardless if they are youngest or 2nd youngest or 3rd youngest, they are young. Making your statement incorrect |

Burke stated he refused to rebuild...his words not mine. - Barx
He refused to tank, not rebuild. Just like Nonis is doing now. |
|
|

Burke refused to rebuild properly and failed. Hopefully Nonis will have the patience Burke lacked.
The Leafs aren't young and they certainly aren't exciting.
They are a mid-aged, low skill team with very few blue chip prospects.
Listen, I lovem as much as the next fan, but you need a wee dose of reality. - Barx
HUH??? Aren't the Leafs the 2nd youngest team in the NHL? |

You can't really say Nonis is doing that.
We'll see what he does at the deadline. Which players he sells |

I think it'll be close to what it was last year: MTL, TOR, NYI will be duking it out for last place in the East. - gravyface
You would think, but who knows. Many thought Ottawa would bottom feed last year. Im not expecting any of those 3 to be playoff bound, but in a 48 game season its really going to be an all out sprint with a lot of the unexpected. |

On another note...
Not banking on any results for the season, but I am definitely excited to see the team play with what feels like a new young, energetic vibe.
Excited to hopefully see 3 good lines get out there, and hopefully komarov provides a nice spark. |

check the standings and then tell us...
EDIT: and I'm not really disagreeing with you, but if the team doesn't do any better, it isn't technically better. It will be better in the future, but it hasnt been yet. - Big_Lightnin
I do know what you are saying. I just think that its not fair to ask a guy to rebuild and then complain when the short term results arent there. Say what you want about Burke not doing a "proper" rebuild, but all the core players he aquired are in their early to mid twenties and he surrounded those guys with a bunch of kids. Phil was only 21 and hasnt hit his peak and the roster is loaded with at least 6 top ten picks. (Kadri, Reilly, Phil, Dion, Lupul, JVR) . All I am saying is that is disingenous to complain about whether or not the team was any good. They in fact sucked. But you can't properly judge how he did for a few years. |

If Nonis was tanking he would be trading current roster players for picks. The better players I mean, not Lombardi. That said, he going to be patient and build through draft and development, but thats not tanking. Tanking is trading Lupul, Phaneuf, Liles etc. Guys than can bring something of value back.
The deadline is no indicator on what his plans are now. If the team is playoff bound and in good spot, would take a miracle but.., then he wont be stripping the team. If they are out of the playoffs, he will sell. But tanking means he starts trying to lose now, not in April. |

Nonis said that's what he's doing. He said he's not doing a teardown. He's continuing to build on what they have |

He's gone.
Nothing will be different with Nonis running the team, other then we don't have to hear Burkes big fat mouth spewing garbage. |

Burke half ass'd the rebuild, stuck the leafs in some sort if purgatory where we still dont know which way to go. We dont have enough elite prospects to rebuild properly, we dont have enough Elite NHL talent to look into acquiring other players to add to our contending team.
We are in the middle, spinning wheels..thanks to Burke |

I think Nonis made the direction of the team perfectly clear and is trying to rebuild properly. What the hell does that mean, they dont have enough elite prospects to rebuild? Is there an elite prospect prerequisite to draft? |

I don't mind it, but I worry that they aren't going to start with the puck a lot of the time. Lose a lot of faceoffs and have to go back and regroup.
Liles-Franson on the 2nd PP??
EDIT: Fwrds maybe Grabs and Kadri and Kulemin?? MAc?? |

Sportsnet just said the same.
Kyper made the point that if the Marlies are all stocked up why are guys like Fraser and Motteu there instead of guys like Blacker and whatnot. - robin_steele264
Kyper and Maclean are basically Harry and Lloyd. Both are complete idiots.
They love to hear their own voices and always try to out shout each other.
Millard is the only who with a bit of common sense on that show |

No point trying to predict where they end up this year. Too many variables.
I would like them to draft high, or finish high |

There are simply no facts to back up what you are saying. Did't rebuild properly? He swaped out two firsts for a 21 year old. Then he replaced those firsts by adding top ten picks Lupul and Phanuef. Then he traded for youth like Colbourne and Ashton, and kept the rest of his picks. All his FA signings were short term and resonable contracts. One of which he turned into Jake Gardner. Burke never traded a youth for a vetren, even when it could have gotten him to the playoffs.
I love you telling me I need reality, because I am only going by facts. I am not saing this is a cup contending team, nor am I making any predictions. but I do find them really exciting and they are indisputably one of the leagues youngest teams.
Sure they lack a Stamkos, Malkin, Crosby or Ovechkin. So do 27 other teams. Rielly is a blue chipper. So is Kessel, so is Gardner and JVR was a number two overall pick. This idea that you need a top draft pick is so preposterous because theres no guarentees with a "proper" rebuild. Washington got OV and Backstrom and i'd still rather have the Leafs overall current lineup. Pgh won a lottery. Edmonton won like three lotteries. Ask the Islanders, Winnepeg or Columbus how the "proper" rebuilds are going. |

Lupul should be first to go, IMO. Too injury prone to resign long term and big money. Save it for UFA this summer. Though I do man crush Lupul and his sense of humour. |
