McClement is staying. The coach loves him.

Everyone will love him. This is one of Burke's best moves. And just for the record since I was on some sort of vacation, the fireing of Brian Burke will go down as one of the worst and most stupid moves made by an organization famous for making stupid moves. Perhaps the most undeserved fireing in the history of the NHL. If it was at all possible to unwrap myself emotionally from this team, I would have done it last week when they made this disgracful move. Problem is, no matter if I chose a new team, it would be arbitrary becaus the Leafs have been instilled in me since I was a child. Regardless the disgraceful fireing of the best executive in the NHL, for no reason other than corperate sleekness and PR B.S, is bush league.

Clearly, by not fireing his coach, scouts or bevy of assistant gms, and by promoting Nonis the organziation is intelligent enough to realize they are on a good path, with an exciting young team, so thats something.

Something I havnt seen mentioned is that when Burke was hired exactly four years ago, it was a consensus that he needed five years to rebuild the sub-expansion team he inherited, and all they gave him was four. Again, disgracful. Personally I think the world needs more Brian Burkes: His brashness and honesty is not only entertaining, its refreshing.

Ah, Leafs fans.

They are so cute at the start of the season.

It's the delusional optimism that unites us all.

there is some truth to it thought.

we were great first half of last season, even with monster as starter..

if line 1 repeats, and line 2 (gbov and co) can get back to 2 seasons ago, i could see this third line being the best 3rd line in a long time (its true, we had the worst 3rd lines EVER for so long)...Sjostrom, Wallin (i wont go on, it hurts too much). anyhow, mcclemment is a great 2way center for the PK.

i think we are improved, and our D looks better withOUT that pylon schenn.

YEAH I (frank)IN SAID IT

People are getting so bent out of shape about Orr being on it.

EVERYONE. Orr being on this team right now doesn't mean he stays here the whole season. If he's a detriment to the lineup they'll take him out and replace it.

The lines a team uses to start the season aren't (frank)ing permanent.

- Scruffton

lets face it.. there aint a whole lot of toughness in the top three lines.. need a 4th line that will crash and bang and wont back down from anyone.

everyone just remembers the team that finished the season, and how disapointijg it was that they competely fell apart.

after 48 games last year they were in 6th or 7th i believe....

if they stay healthy there is no reason they cant a borderline playoff team

andf that was without a healthy Reimer........

- billyberg10

It wouldn't surprise me if we're a playoff team or if we're dead last in the east if not the league. I've seen a lot of "expert opinions" that put us in the 12-15 in the east type spot which, honestly, is probably right. Although a lot of them seem to be picking the Blues to make it to the Cup and I just don't see that happening.

I just hope we don't have another one of those mediocre seasons where we're not good enough for the playoffs but not bad enough to have a top pick. I hope we end up on one extreme or the other: playoffs (which isn't even all that extreme) or dead last.

More than any year injuries are going to be a key factor, not just to us but other teams.

ya and like I said earlier, once you factor out the PK unit, which is two thirds of the 4th line, that doesn't leave many minutes for Orr. Throw in a 5 minute major for beating the (frank) out of someone and he maybe has two shifts for the game.

I wil say that even if Dion repeats his stellar year from last year, Garner returns from a concussion only to improve and Gunnarson remains of the most underappreciated Dmen this side of Shattenkirk, then the Leafs still have the worst Defense core in hockey. Liles resigning might have actually been Burkes worst move. This team needs a stud.

I think its a bigger weakness than the Goalie everyone is making such a fuss about because., if you think about it, the goalie is as good as his defence. Always.
